Musical Social Emotional Learning (MSEL) capitalizes on the power of music education to help our students build the competencies of self (self-awareness & self-management), others (social-awareness and relationship management), and decisions (responsible decision-making). Relevant and affirming
This podcast is the discussion that I wanted to be part of after reading Scott Edgar’s book. It touches on the challenges presented by teaching music during a pandemic, the necessity of using music as a means to discuss our country’s racial discord, and most importantly how rich our music teaching can be under the new national standards when we focus on our students’ social and emotional needs. I eagerly await more episodes!
Inspiring. Thought-Provoking. Timely.
A great introduction to SEL in Music Education, paired with relevant and timely strategies and repertoire ideas. A much needed inspirational shot in the arm as I wait for a literal shot in the arm.
