The Last Good Friday by Jacob Simpson / Conspiracy Thriller

The Last Good Friday by Jacob Simpson / Conspiracy Thriller

    Welcome to. Thriller Week!

Author Jacob Simpson's passion for writing and storytelling comes through brilliantly as we discuss his writing process and journey about a pastor who moonlights as a private eye in his recent project titled The Last Good Friday, currently looking to be published traditionally. No stranger in publishing stories, however, Jacob explores the clash between the past and present New York in his writing. I think I said "fascinating" so many times but it is definitely so fitting with his work.

We also discuss a little bit about Raymond Chandler and my love for Houston!
    About his series:

    Introducing Joshua Gates

Joshua Gates had everything in life going for him. Beautiful wife. A great pastorate in suburban Philadelphia. An inside track on rising in the ranks of his denomination. And then his wife left him, his call fell apart, and he slunk off to a church in Los Angeles to rebuild. After getting drawn into a mystery that nearly cost him his life, he took a part-time call to Luther Memorial Church in Manhattan's East Village, and supplemented his income by opening up a private investigator practice. His clients exist on the fringes of New York City: desperate parents, working class and working poor, folks who don't trust the church but trust the police even less. Josh operates in the Manhattan of both imposing glass towers and foreboding back alleys, its secrets and sins whispering behind his back. He's a dogged investigator who promises his clients nothing more than what he can give them. But after previous failures, he lives without fear. Josh is capably aided by his second wife Julia, a registered nurse at Manhattan General's ER, who has seen more of the city's underbelly than she'd care to remember. Together, they make a wonderful team.

Rewrites of the Heart by Terry Newman / Romance

Rewrites of the Heart by Terry Newman / Romance

    Continuing with Romance Week!

Author Terry Newman's positivity is so infectious! Our talk is full of laughter and definitely awe (from me!) as she talks about her romance Rewrites of the Heart. There's something about just simply enjoying a great conversation with a romance author that makes this week in such good cheer.
    About the book:
JJ Spritely, romance author, writes characters that jump off the page. Figuratively, that is. She never expects them to make a literal leap smack dab into her world. But Alex Zurich and Blake Teesdale do just that. And they’re on a mission to help JJ write her own personal love story with a man she recently met, Kennedy King Cooper.

A history professor, Cooper doesn’t see the value of romance novels and he has even less regard for those who write them. Until he meets a woman who haunts his thoughts.

There’s only one small snag in Alex’s and Blake’s plan…okay…two rather large snags. JJ wants nothing to do with Cooper. The other snag? Alex and Blake aren’t able to return to the pages of their own book.

Will JJ and Cooper write their own love story? And will Alex and Blake find their way back to their own world?

Ten Years by Pernille Hughes / Romance

Ten Years by Pernille Hughes / Romance

    Welcome to Romance Week!

Author Pernille Hughes discusses what makes a great romance as well as her writing journey for her third novel Ten Years.  Don't miss the realistic look at writing a romance as well as the reader's expectations!
    About the book:
    They’re perfect for each other
They just don’t know it yet
Becca and Charlie have known each other for years – ever since they met at university.
And for every one of those years, they’ve bickered, argued, offended, mocked and generally rubbed each other up the wrong way.
Until now. Until Ally’s bucket list. The death of their loved one should mean Becca and Charlie can go their separate ways and not look back. But completing the list is something neither Charlie nor Becca can walk away from.
And sometimes, those who bring out the worst in you, also bring out the very best…
Over the course of ten years, Becca and Charlie’s paths collide as they deal with grief, love and life after Ally. Not since Emma and Dex in One Day and Will and Lou in Me Before You will you root for a couple as much.

    Continuing with Horror Week!

Author Joseph Pesavento and I discussed the horror genre and all that encompasses his work about stories in small towns. Don't miss our talk!
    About the book:
Noah always wanted to help the community of Hyde Cove as an officer. He let his personal life take second place to protect the people and the town he loved since childhood. He thought he had it all under control until forced into a dangerous confrontation with Jay Kirk, who tried to gun him down.

Years after the Jay Kirk incident, three masked men show up on the town fair's opening night and give Noah an ultimatum: Surrender or everyone in Hyde Cove will die.

Using every resource and fighting a trio mysteriously connected to Jay Kirk, Noah takes on a wild night of massacre, grief, gun battles, and the overwhelming presence of death.
Will Noah have what it takes to stand against these people set out to ruin Hyde Cove once and for all?

The Local Truth (White Harbor, Book I) by Carlos E. Rivera / Horror

The Local Truth (White Harbor, Book I) by Carlos E. Rivera / Horror

    Welcome to Horror Week!

Calling from Costa Rica, horror author Carlos E. Rivera discuss the first book in his horror trilogy as well as his roots for writing the folklore masterpiece. You don't want to miss this episode!
    About the book:
    ALL TOWNS HAVE SECRETS

An unseen evil is growing deep beneath the isolated seaside town of White Harbor, which an insidious cult worships as their God. For centuries, it has fed on the inner darkness of its people, their nightmares, and their secrets, forming the almost tangible collective mind the locals call “Blight Harbor”.

Only one person can speak directly to the town’s God: Martha Lange, an Alzheimer’s patient in the town’s hospice. The Faithful call her “Mother”. She is the messenger of God, and she has proclaimed it’s time for His awakening. When Peter, Martha’s estranged son, returns to White Harbor after a personal loss, he’s unaware that his arrival will act as a catalyst for a dark omen, and God has promised Mother a reward for her service.

As supernatural events, disappearances, and horrors shake White Harbor over the course of three nights, Peter Lange and a group of townspeople swallowed up in these events must desperately find answers in the town’s history of death and tragedy. The source of the cult, and the true nature of “Blight Harbor” must be uncovered, because the final ritual is underway, and the most prominent phrase in the cult’s unearthly tongue translates to:

    “God will feed.”

The Hand I've Been Dealt: A Life Lived with Epilepsy by Barbara J. Mack / Memoir

The Hand I've Been Dealt: A Life Lived with Epilepsy by Barbara J. Mack / Memoir

Continuing the 2nd Non-Fiction Week with a memoir!

Author Barbara J. Mack doesn't shy away from sharing her experience with being diagnosed with epilepsy in her memoir, The Hand I've Been Dealt: A Life Lived with Epilepsy. She credits her family and friends as we discuss her writing style and journey.
    About the book:
Author Barbara J. Mack grew up in a loving home on a typical hard working family farm. Her life as she knew it suddenly changed at the age of 20 when a near tragic car accident changed her life forever.
Diagnosed with a seizure disorder when there was little information or support, caused her to lean even more on her tight knit family.
Just as her seizures were becoming manageable, a new wild card was added to her already challenging life when an unexpected pregnancy happened. Barb’s new role as a single mom led to more challenges. But once again the support of friends and family helped her navigate trying times.
Through her whimsical stories of family life and heartbreaking years’ worth of medical challenges, Barb’s story educates and inspires others to better cope with the hand they’ve been dealt.

The story behind the story

Come here to learn the story behind the story. The hosts asks evocative questions and then generously steps aside to let the authors give the background of their creative works. The podcast covers a range of fiction genres, but the subject is always the same: how did the work come to be? This is a destination for those interested as much in the craft of writing as in discovering new authors!
