Tenkara in Salt? A Conversation with Henry Barber + The River Network

Tenkara in Salt? A Conversation with Henry Barber + The River Network

Tenkara is a mountain stream method of fly-fishing, that uses a tenkara rod, line and fly. But, the tenkara rod is also a tool that people all over the world are now using in their own unique way, such as in salt water.
To learn more about how people are using tenkara rods, Daniel visited the coast of Maine to fish with Henry Barber, a renowned rock climber who has been using Tenkara USA rods for catching striped bass on the surf, in coastal rivers and from rocks on the coast. After a couple of days of fishing, they sat down by a fire and discussed the experience.
And, in the second part of the episode Daniel has a conversation with Nicole Silk, president of the River Network, to learn more about what this cool non-profit has been doing to help protect and restore our rivers.

    Japan Cast 2018: Ep.2, Hokkaido

    Japan Cast 2018: Ep.2, Hokkaido

Despite a cold, a scalding hot spring, and language barriers the experience in Hokkaido has been positive overall. Rainbows, Amemasu and oshorokoma have been some of our catches. In this episode I also reflect on the poor treatment of fish in Japan and talk about the experience in general. We still have a few hours of fishing in Hokkaido tomorrow morning before I leave, so it's not over yet. I hope to publish the next episode around July 1st (give or take a day).

More than Just Tenkara

Great podcast about an important topic. But it's more than just Tenkara fishing it is the whole style of fixed line fly fishing that was the original style of fly fishing for trout practiced by Izaak Walton and his crowd. Fixed line fishing is not just Japanese it is fly fishing old style - and it offeres advantages over traditional fly line fishing.

Outstanding!

Daniel does an exceptional job of informing people about Tenkara. I am quite familiar with tenkara but by listening to these podcasts I have learned things I probably would not have on my own. I had the pleasure of meeting Daniel several years ago and was impressed by his enthusiasm and knowledge of tenkara. These podcasts are for the beginner as well as the seasoned tenkara enthusiast. Keep up the great work Daniel!

Great podcast

It’s a fantastic podcast about tenkara, the only thing I’d like to see is more conversations about warm water species and still water tenkara, specifically backcountry ponds. There aren’t any real good trout streams in my area and most of my fishing is backcountry beaver and strip mine ponds.

Great podcast!
