Episode 114: BHM Highlight - The Impact of Quiet Strength: Lessons in Leadership from My Father

In this episode, I shine a light on the impact of a quiet, yet powerful leadership as I share how my dad, Errol Joseph Dixon, had a lasting impression on my leadership style.

You will learn how his strength in listening and his unwavering support for my dreams resonates as a reminder that true leadership isn't about being the loudest voice, but about the impact of compassion and understanding.

    TOP CAREING TAKEAWAYS:

Breaking Stereotypes of Black Men: "When my dad entered my life, I was about twelve years old. He brought with him a sense of contentment that eliminated many of the negative stereotypes that are often associated with Black men. In a world where misconceptions prevail about Black men, my dad stood out as a beacon of positivity, kindness, and an unwavering support for my dreams."
The Impact of Quiet Strength: "In a society that often values loudness and boldness and this sense of showmanship, this sense of aggression, my dad was a quiet strength that embodied empathy and that spoke volumes."
The Power of Presence in Leadership: "The greatest gift that you can give to them is being a witness, being that witness. Where your presence is there, but your words are not saying much, but your presence speaks volumes."
The Essence of True Leadership: "Remember that true leadership isn't always about being the loudest person or the loudest voice in the room, but it's about the impact that you will make and that you will do through your compassion and understanding."

Episode 110: Why it is Essential for White Parents To Also Teach Their Children About Racism.

Episode 110: Why it is Essential for White Parents To Also Teach Their Children About Racism.

Systemic racism is alive and well!

In this powerful episode, I address the crucial role of white parents in teaching their children about racism. I challenge the desire to shield children from the reality of racism - as you don't want to steal their "innocence".

Well BIPOC and racialized children do not have that luxury, so your children, can't have it as well. For us to have an antiracist world, white parents, you have to do your part. I share with you a real-life experience, of a white parent whose child used the N-word and how they handled it with guidance.

    TOP CAREING TAKEAWAYS

As an inclusive leader, and as a parent, you can use your influence on your children to create a community of belonging. Listen at: [00:00:25 → 00:00:36]'
You as a White Parent are not excused from your child not realizing our world is racist. Listen in at:
    [00:01:48 → 00:02:10].
Racism cannot be only addressed through empathy - ACTION must also be part of the equation. Listen in at [00:02:55 → 00:03:21].
Using the reasoning that we are all of the "human race" to not address racism is not acceptable, because race is a social construct - that was constructed for us as humans to believe that certain groups of people, based on the way they look, etc., were deemed less than.
