The next day, tensions rise as Jess tries engaging a moody Ray before his run. While out, Ray gets hit by a car. At the hospital he sees Morgan with his pregnant wife.
When Ray returns home bandaged up, he tries convincing Jess that Morgan is lying about his marriage being over. Jess refuses to believe him until Ray mentions Morgan's wife being pregnant. A distraught Jess confirms Morgan is still with his wife.
That night, Ray comforts a heartbroken Jess with food and laughter. Jess expresses optimism about finding a man who truly cherishes her. She thanks Ray for being a loyal friend and exposing Morgan’s lies when she needed it most. Their bond strengthens, leading to warm banter and a pact to avoid men like Morgan. The episode ends on an upbeat note with Jess introducing Ray to her favorite sitcom, Cheers.

Ray gets his scout to convince Diego's parents to let Diego sign a Dodgers training contract. However, Jess disapproves of Diego starting his sports career so young. At a celebratory dinner with Diego's family, Jess sabotages the deal by telling the parents it's a bad idea.
Furious, Ray confronts Jess demanding to know why she ruined Diego's opportunity. Jess finally opens up about her traumatic past as a figure skater forced into constant brutal training by her obsessive Olympic skater mom despite hating it.
She saw herself in Diego and worried he'd end up depressed like she did. Ray helps Jess understand not every child athlete has unsupportive parents like hers. Diego's family loves and nurtures him.
With new perspective, Jess apologizes. In the end, Ray's scout manages to convince Diego's parents after all. Diego gets signed to the training contract, changing his family's life financially. Jess and Ray reconcile, closer than ever. The episode ends on an upbeat note, with Jess promising Ray a date with her gorgeous, funny, baseball fan friend.

Episode Summary:
In the opening scene, Jess meets Ray at a trendy LA coffee shop, where he reveals the details of his massive new $190 million baseball contract. Jess is shocked and makes jokes about finally being able to afford the expensive coffee.
At Andrew's house, Jess and Ray break the news of Ray's plans to retire early from baseball. Andrew can't believe it. When Jess admits she already tweeted the news, Ray panics, knowing the team legally has to be notified first.
After trying to do damage control in a live radio interview, Jess only makes things worse by confirming Ray's retirement. Andrew scolds Jess for creating an even bigger scandal.
When Ray finds out about the interview, he's furious with Jess for ignoring his pleas to stay out of his business. He cuts off contact with Jess, leaving her distraught.
In a last ditch attempt to fix her mistake, Jess gives an interview spinning the story - claiming Ray only wants to retire early to start a family with her. The emotional angle works and the fans side with Ray, forcing the team to back off.
Ray is shocked when he sees the interview. He visits Jess to say her plan actually worked. The owners have let him out of his contract without penalty, as long as Jess stays out of trouble.
Jess and Ray laugh together, both relieved. The experience has brought them closer. Jess promises to keep her online presence low-key from now on. Though the road ahead is uncertain, they are ready to tackle it together.
