[130] It's Time To Say Goodbye To The Podcast + A 2019 Year End Recap

    It's the final episode...
    Notes from this episode:
Weekly THM newsletter: http://bit.ly/2lA3aPl My incredible podcast editor, Eilise Bonebright: heyeilise@gmail.com 5 seasons, 130 episodes and so many incredible nuggets of wisdom gained in between but it's officially time to end That's So Maven. As sad as I am to share this, I also know that the time is right. It's been an amazing journey but all good things must come to an end and for the podcast, the time is now.
So in today's episode I'm getting honest about why I've made this decision (there are many reasons) as well as sharing about some big decisions in 2019 and how they will affect this next decade. No new humans to interview, topics to jump into or new wellness trends to explore.
Just me and the mic and my honest truth.
From the bottom of my heart, thank you for tuning in. It's been a wild ride and I'm excited to see what's to come in the future. Onwards and upwards!

Is there anything in life more polarizing than body hair? This is particularly true for women who are often judged for having any ounce of hair on their bodies. What about for men? Why are they revered for their body hair and judged for removing it? Today on the show I'm chatting with Breanne Fahs a professor of women and gender studies at Arizona State University and expert on body hair all about it.
So if you've wondered what the deal is with body hair, is it healthy (spoiler alert: YES!) and why we feel so inclined to remove it, this episode is for you. On today's episode we also discuss:
Dr. Fahs' background and her interest in women + gender studies Why body hair is so polarizing for people The history of body hair + why women feel the need to remove it Is body hair clean? The stigma around body hair Her best tips for being confident with body hair Her takeaways from challenging her students to grow out their body hair ...and so much more! After 128 episodes it's probably no surprise to any of you how much I love astrology. We've chatting about astrology many times here on the show but never have we delved into the birth chart and looked at it from an applied perspective. That's why I'm thrilled to welcome Debra Silverman, a psychotherapist, astrology and writer to the show today. She takes a clinical approach to astrology where it's not just predictive horoscopes but how to get to know your inner self better and live life to your highest potential. She helps you get to know you as it is written in the stars. But we also discuss the importance of fate vs. free will and how to find what your true calling and purpose is in life.

Today's episode is a bit different. Rather than just explaining how a birth chart works, Debra is breaking it down for all of you by jumping into my birth chart and sharing some of my inner workings. I hope you enjoy!

On today's episode we also discuss:
Debra's background and how she combines psychotherapy with astrology Her approach to astrology and how its different from others What is a birth chart + how are you born with one? Your sun, moon and rising signs The 4 elements and what they tell you about yourself The missing element and what it can teach you Saturn returns and what you need to know about it South and north nodes and how you can use them to live life to the fullest ...and so much more! Episode #83 with Lee Vosburgh from Style Bee
Without question, sustainability is an important and pressing dialogue we all need to be discussing. It's part of the reason you have been seeing more posts about sustainability on THM and in my personal life I've found myself gravitating towards resources that are discussing it. One of the most relatable and empowering of these resources is The Good Trade, a website founded by AmyAnn Cadwell, a leading voice in the sustainability movement, an entrepreneur and social impact angel investor. She wears many hats, but educating the world on how to make more sustainable choices is the primary of them.
The Healthy Maven and That's So Maven has always been a place where we discuss health and wellness and how to take better care of yourself, but you cannot take care of yourself while ignoring the health of the planet. They are one and the same and need equal attention and respect. So today we are chatting about this parallel between sustainability and wellness and how to make everyday choices for sustainability and curb our fast fashion addiction.

On today's episode we also discuss:
AmyAnn's background and getting a degree in social entrepreneurship Why she launched The Good Trade in 2014 and what inspired her decision "The True Cost" and how fast fashion became so popular How to shop more sustainably and her favorite sustainable clothing brands How to prioritize decision making when it comes to sustainability Everyday changes we can all implement to live more sustainably Making sustainability conversations accessible and less scary ...and so much more! Episode #119 with Sarah Polansky of Prismatic Plants
What is Sugaring Hair Removal? blog post
Medicinal mushrooms?! I know what you're thinking here...but hang with me! This episode is a juicy one. Over the last several years medicinal mushrooms (mushrooms that have benefits for our bodies...not of the magic variety!) have had a huge resurgence. But these incredible fungi are not new and in fact, are likely older than us. So what's the deal with them and are they really that great? Simple answer: Yes. But for the longer answer tune into today's episode with Jeff Chilton, president of Nammex, author of The Mushroom Cultivator and mushroom grower and researcher for over 40 years is on the show today sharing all of his mushroom wisdom.
This was honestly one of the most interesting conversations I've had this year on the show. Not only are we going deep into how mushrooms are grown, the benefits of different varietals (reishi, lion's mane, cordyceps etc...) but we're also discussing the importance of sourcing and what's really in some of the more popular mushroom products out there. On today's episode we're also discussing:
Jeff's passion for mushrooms and what started his 40+ year career In the business How mushrooms are grown and the difference between mushrooms and mycelium The nutritional benefits of mushrooms and how to consume them  Does it matter where mushrooms are grown? What about organic? The different types of medicinal mushrooms and their benefits How to determine quality of your mushroom products Starting an organic mushroom farm in China ...and so much more! Chatting with Tiffany Ima was something I had been looking forward to for a long time. Finally getting the chance to sit down and discuss her journey and experiences ended up being even better than I had imagined. Not surprisingly, we have a lot in common. Tiffany's journey has not been direct (is anybody's?!) and has evolved in a messy, beautiful and very public way. Nevertheless, the most important piece is that she showed up. period.
One of my favorite discussions we have on the show is about exercise addiction and how to use exercise to support your wellness and not as a tool to manipulate and change your body. As someone who struggled with exercise addiction, this part really hit home with me. But there is so much more!
On today's episode we also discuss:
Tiffany's journey and how she started off of a fashion blogger How being diagnosed with Bipolar Disorder changed the trajectory of her message From fitness trainer to body-positive activist Exercise addiction and how to find a healthy relationship with exercise The benefits of journaling and what "consistency" really means Why so many creative women struggle with body image Her best tips for confidence and what simple wellness means to her ...and so much more! hillaray ,

Thank you!

So, I started listening to podcasts recently (I know, I know) and ran across this one a couple weeks ago. And now it’s ending?! I am beyond sad. This really had become my new favorite podcast. 😔 Davida is a true light and I hope she continues to share her authenticity with the world in some format. I will be on the lookout for whatever she chooses to do next. Just wanted to say thank you to her and her team for producing such a smart, honest and thought-provoking podcast. I’m SO glad I have a ton of old episodes to deep dive into :)
