We dive deep into the science, tech, and social issues explored in the novel "After On." It's NOT necessary to be an "After On" reader to listen, learn & enjoy this podcast!
Octopus Intelligence (and more!) | Roger Hanlon
A wide-ranging discussion of cognition in octopuses & cuttlefish, plus many, many other topics with globally renowned sensory ecologist Roger Hanlon.
A Massive Future for an Old Vaccine? | Megan Murray
Harvard epidemiologist Megan Murray tells us all about the anti-tuberculosis vaccine “BCG,” and the astonishing protection it may provide against Covid -- as well as looming future pandemics.
Detecting Disease Outbreaks from Internet Traffic | Seth Stephens-Davidowitz
This is closely tied to a 4-hour collaboration between Sam Harris and me, which Sam is posting to his podcast's feed. I strongly recommend that episode too! But it's not "required" for you to get everything out of this fascinating conversation with Seth.
Announcing a New Season
This "episode" is just a quick new announcement of a new season of the podcast (finally)! And also of something very cool that I'm working on with fellow podcaster Sam Harris.
The Case Against Reality | Don Hoffman (classic + updated)
Quantitative Psychologist Don Hoffman has a head-spinning take on the true nature of reality vs. what our senses report to us. This is a revisitation of our original interview, expanded with lots of new material recorded last week.
Many Quantum Worlds | Sean Carroll
Quantum mechanics – and its eerie "Many Worlds" interpretation – are explored in terms that both poets & physicists can appreciate.
After on podcast
I first heard Rob Reid presenting a 3.5 hour presentation on existential threats on Sam Harris’s podcast. I was so impressed with Rob Reid as a presenter of diverse topics that I wanted more. So I googled him and have listened to all 56 current episodes of his After On podcasts which began in 2017.
Every time I listen to an episode I learn something new such as space archaeology,
Cryptocurrency, Artificial Intelligence, machine learning, robotics, genetics, astronomy, Crispr, existensional threats, medicine and many other areas of
Science and technology. Rob prepares 40 hours for each episode. He is so prepared about the subject and the interviewee that his interviews are more like hearing a very stimulating conversion. Rob has a way of paring down some of the difficult sciences, and technologies being discussed and presenting back to the listener explanations in lay language for listeners to easily comprehend. I recommend After On podcast to everyone. I already have two friends who are listening to episodes.
Longboat Key , Florida
A really well made, comprehensive introduction of various scientific topics. This can’t be recommended enough.
I found this podcast after an interview with Sam Harris on his Waking Up podcast. I really enjoy the guests and topics. Thank you.
