    #105 Patrick "Burt" Brown | A-10 Pilot & Weapons Officer | Could the F/A-18 Replace the A-10

    #105 Patrick "Burt" Brown | A-10 Pilot & Weapons Officer | Could the F/A-18 Replace the A-10

In this episode of the Afterburn Podcast, we dive into the possibility of replacing the A-10 Warthog with the F/A-18 Super Hornet.
This episode is hosted by John "Rain" Waters who is joined by Patrick "Burt" Brown, an experienced A-10 pilot and Weapons School Instructor.
"Burt" has presented the idea (see article link below) of replacing the A-10 with the F-18 Super Hornet in the United States Air Force. He makes the case for the Super Hornet, highlighting its asymmetrical capabilities, austere field capability, weapons loadout, and joint outside platform. The discussion also touches on the concept of agile combat employment and the importance of retaining the knowledge and skill set within the A-10 community. The conversation explores alternative options such as the Super Tucano, T-7, and F-15EX, but ultimately concludes that the Super Hornet is the best choice.
The conversation explores the viability of using F-18 Super Hornets as a replacement for the A-10 Warthog. The main themes discussed include the need to preserve the knowledge and skill set of the A-10 community, the importance of maintaining production capacity for fighter jets, and the potential advantages of the Super Hornet in terms of versatility and asymmetry. The conversation also touches on the possibility of the Air Force acquiring Growlers and the challenges of organizational change and specialization within the F-35 program.

Great podcast

Listen about every day as I work my way through all the past episodes.

The bro chats are a great listen and funny how relatable they are to civilian life.

Some really fantastic individual interviews.

Highly recommend.

The Service after Service

This is a long time coming and I just wanted to say thank you for creating the link between civilians and military aviation. Rain and the bros are giving mil personnel a chance to tell and document their stories. Whether it’s day to day stuff or an engines out and jettisoning weapons to crawl home story. I deeply admire the courage of these guys and gals. Just think, these stories will be heard for generations and hopefully centuries to come. Not everyone wants to write a book but they will sit down for an interview, so a story that was originally left for friends and family, can now be shared with us.
I’ll say the same for the other military aviation podcasts as well. Thank you guys.

Love the app. maybe not the UI ,

For any aviation enthusiast

If you love aviation, pilot or not, you are missing out if you are not listening to this podcast. The focus is military, but even if your interest is commercial or general aviation, you will find it engaging. The guests are not limited to fighter jocks. In fact, some of the best episodes are with transport pilots. Many of the guests have and discuss flying experience outside of the military as well. Must-have subscription for any flying-nerd.
