Episode 129: "The Black Guns Matter Episode" with Maj Toure

Episode 129: "The Black Guns Matter Episode" with Maj Toure

We're back with a special one-time episode of The All the Fly Kids Show to have a conversation with Philadelphia-based activist Maj Toure. He's best known as the founder of Black Guns Matter, an organization focused on education people in urban communities in all 50 states on their 2nd amendment rights and responsibilities through firearms training and education. Maj has dedicated the better part of the last four years to educating Black people around the country about firearms and the racism at the foundation of gun control policies.

Geronimo was joined by Backpack Matt and Chelle B to get more insight on the mission of Black Guns Matter, why the 2nd Amendment applies to Black people despite the media showing otherwise, gun ownership in the midst of potentially crippling economic downturn with long-lasting effects, and how we move forward.

All The Fly Kids Presents Centerpieces: #blackAF + "Sue Me"

All The Fly Kids Presents Centerpieces: #blackAF + "Sue Me"

This episode is about the quality standards of fashion, film, and tv created by Black people and consumer expectations. What influenced this conversation? Netflix’s #blackAF (created by Kenya Barris) and Wale’s “Sue Me” video (directed by Kerby Jean-Raymond of Pyer Moss). While the two are different on the surface, both are dealing with socioeconomics and race with fashion playing a supporting role all throughout. To flesh out some perspectives, Geronimo brought in some brilliant minds who know a great deal about fashion, film/tv, and of course Black culture.

All The Fly Kids Presents Centerpieces: The Royce Da 5'9" Interview

All The Fly Kids Presents Centerpieces: The Royce Da 5'9" Interview

"The Goat" himself, Royce Da 5'9", reached out to us to give his perspective on some of the topics we covered during our conversation about his latest album, The Allegory. The entire interview was like getting album footnotes in realtime. Royce gave us much insight on lessons he's learned in life and the music industry, along with how Black people can better navigate and effectively use our influence in entertainment. We think you'll enjoy.
