Tips for Buying a Used Overlanding Vehicle (Tricks for Finding a Used Car, What to Look For, Mods)

Tips for Buying a Used Overlanding Vehicle (Tricks for Finding a Used Car, What to Look For, Mods)

NOTE:  I recorded this at the same time as another of my recent videos and apparently it was the windiest day of the year. I tried my best to cut out as much of the wind noise as possible, but there's still quite a bit, so apologies for that!

This week, I'm talking about what considerations to make when you're planning to purchase a used Overlanding vehicle. What do you need to think about? What are your needs?

I'll also talk through some general tips for what to look for and how to tell if a modified vehicle has been well built or shoddily put together. So, hopefully this is some helpful content for anyone thinking about getting a used modified rig!

Post up in the comments if you've got any tips or questions!

S4E2 - 2022 Ford Maverick Set Up for Overlanding (Best Trim, Best Options, Packages, FX4, 2.0T, AWD)

On this episode, I'm going to walk you through how I optioned out my 2022 Ford Maverick and my thought process behind each choice. I'm not saying this is the way you have to build your Maverick if you're thinking of getting one for Overlanding, but rather the way I set mine up. Hopefully the info is helpful if you're considering this awesome little truck as a softroader or light duty truck for gravel fire road exploration!

I'm excited to bring more and more content on the Maverick into 2022 and going forward. So, if you're a Maverick person or just into Overlanding in general, make sure to click that subscribe button so you don't miss anything! Post up in the comments with what you'd like to see and I'll do my best to bring you the content you want. Thanks for watching!

S3E50 - How to Start Overlanding (Newbie Overlanding, Tips and Tricks, Budget, Mistakes to Avoid)

I've talked in other, more specific videos about some tips to get started in Overlanding, but in this video/podcast I'm going to specifically address what it takes to get into Overlanding if you're a total newbie.

These general tips will help you figure out what Overlanding is, what kind of budget to set for yourself, and how to get started. There are various tags that can take you to other videos that I've made in the past that are also helpful, so watch for those!

If you have any questions, post up in the comments below!

S3E49 - Learning to Use Your Gear VS Buying New Gear (Mistakes New Overlanders Make)

S3E49 - Learning to Use Your Gear VS Buying New Gear (Mistakes New Overlanders Make)

First of all, apologies for the sporadic wind noise. I recorded this on a camping trip and the wind was apparently crazy. It's not too bad except in a couple of places, but it's annoying so sorry about that.

Today, I put together a really short episode as we approach the holidays talking about the value of learning to use the gear you have, versus just constantly buying new gear.

It can be easy to fall into the trap of blaming your gear (or thinking that more, different, or better gear will solve the problem). However, most of the time you don't necessarily need new gear, but just more knowledge.

While this episode is short, I hope it's helpful and makes you think about your gear vs. knowledge to focus more on learning than purchasing to solve problems, :D. Post up in the comments below if you've got tips that would help people! Thanks for watching!

Getting Comfortable with Overlanding.

Great run down of your first experience. I’m here in Virginia and got introduced to Overlanding because Blue Ridge Overland Gear is in my home town and I also felt the pressure of going out the first time and not having all the gear that everyone else has, going to the expos and seeing all the awesome rigs like you said get out and go I still don’t have a fridge freezer or awning or roof top tent I’m slowly acquire gear went out for months with no lift and stock street tires. We just did what we could do and as the lift and the tires came more gear came we have definitely pushed further out and me my wife and two kids are having a blast!!! Thanks for the honesty about getting started that is one thing that drew me to the Overland community. We are all out here to explore.
