920 episodes

Dan Harris is a fidgety, skeptical journalist who had a panic attack on live national television, which led him to try something he otherwise never would have considered: meditation. He went on to write the bestselling book, 10% Happier. On this show, Dan talks with eminent meditation teachers, top scientists, and even the odd celebrity. Guests include everyone from His Holiness the Dalai Lama to Brené Brown to Karamo from Queer Eye. On some episodes, Dan ventures into the deep end of the pool, covering subjects such as enlightenment and psychedelics. On other episodes, it’s science-based techniques for issues such as anxiety, productivity, and relationships. Dan's approach is seemingly modest, but secretly radical: happiness is a skill you can train, just like working your bicep in the gym. Your progress may be incremental at first, but like any good investment, it compounds over time.
New episodes come out every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday for free. Listen 1-week early and to all episodes ad-free with Wondery+ or Amazon Music with a Prime membership or Amazon Music Unlimited subscription.

Why fear of other people’s opinions (FOPO) holds us back, and what to do about it.

    GUEST BIO
Michael Gervais is a high performance psychologist and the host of the Finding Mastery podcast. His new book is called The First Rule of Mastery: Stop Worrying About What People Think of You.

In this episode we talk about:
    - A handy new acronym: FOPO, Fear of People’s Opinions
    - How the evolutionary roots of our desire for social acceptance work against us in the modern world
    - Why caring about what others think is not the same thing as worrying about what others think
    - The difference between a purpose-based identity and a performance-based identity
    - The anti-FOPO power of things like: imagination, journaling, meditation, social support, and considering your mortality
    - Why focusing less on yourself can be the greatest bulwark against FOPO

Love everything but one very missing piece…

Dan and team—I am grateful for every episode in this podcast, and have learned so much and cannot wait to come to New York for the event. I am an avid fan of the app as well and both of your books, Dan. What I’m having trouble accepting is the lack of you or other highly regarded meditation instructors or leaders in the field, such as Joesph Goldstein or Dr. Mark Epstein who you have on so frequently, ever speaking and condemning the atrocities that are happening in real time under our watch in the Middle East. The loss of life should not be a divisive issue anywhere but most especially in the Buddhist community. Unless I have missed it there has been a complete absence of abhorrence over the atrocities that are taking place. This has nothing to do with religion or whether you’re from the west or the east it has to do with our basic humanity, which I believe is a central tenant of Buddhism. I look forward to the day when I hear an honest conversation about this coming from your leadership Dan. Children are dying every single day. This community isn’t authentic if we aren’t speaking out about it and taking a stand. Buddhism is socially active - it is not passive. Kudos to your colleagues who I know you respect like Glennon Doyle for breaking silence on the issue and being vocal. I hope you will consider it. We need you and the thoughtful leaders of our time to work towards peace. Thank you.

Thank you

The meditation w Dan Harris moved me out of a grumpy, aggravated mood right into ease and quiet in my mind. Thank you.
It was a challenging day filled with emotions that I kept fighting and then I did the meditation and they all vanished.
Thank you

Ordinarily a great show…until Deepak Chopra

When this show hits, it’s really great. But an extremely credulous interview with Deepak Chopra may have turned me off to TPH permanently. Platforming an absolutely atrocious human being like Chopra who has victimized so many people to enrich and aggrandize himself is simply unacceptable. Shame on you, Mr Harris!
