What does it mean to live and love your process? We’re two friends who like talking about *feelings* and want to find out. Welcome to “The Art of Becoming,” a conversation with two friends about practicing, learning and becoming - and the journey along the way.
Taking Care Of Ourselves And Each Other In Coronaland
Friends, these are some unprecedented times we're in. And it just didn't feel right to talk about something else when a global pandemic (#coronavirus) is underway. On the eve of lock-downs, school closings and the socially distant times, we decided to get back to basics and check in with each other.
We talk about how we're taking care of ourselves this week by limiting excessive news intake and trying to maintain some semblance of routine. We share gratitude for the ability to work from home and for the magic of technology in helping us stay connected from near and far. We discuss letting go of expectations, which we know will be an ongoing adventure (particularly as we get ready to work and educate our children at the same time).
And finally, we share the mini challenge we're doing over on our instagram this week (instagram.com/artofbecoming) where we'll be sharing a quick exercise daily to drop back into our bodies, take a moment for ourselves and find a tiny bit of inner peace in these crazy times. We hope you'll join us over there so we can take care of ourselves and each other. 3
Signs Are Everywhere
In this episode, we're talking about the signs and symbols that show up in our lives - often when we need them most. Jess shares how growing up in a spiritual family inspired the ways she looks for miracles and affirmations today, and Selena talks about leaning into the mystery after her father's death. We talk about spirit orbs and roses, how signs encourage us to trust our intuition and how reconnecting to the natural world can comfort us in times of change and transition. And finally, we talk about the work around recent signs we're both doing at the moment, and how that's informing our lives right now.

Talking About Screentime
In today's episode, we talk SCREEN TIME (or is it screentime, one word?), the hotly debated and often misunderstood part of our everyday lives. We discuss watching television growing up, from Nick @ Nite and ER to watching baseball with our fathers. We dive into the important place social media has in our lives and in helping people find their community, and cover the shows we're watching right now. And we share the questions we ask ourselves in order to be intentional about screen time, making infinite scrolling more mindful mindlessness than anything else.

Movement For Everyone, with Pilates Instructor Kelly Adorno
This week we welcome our first guest, the amazing Kelly Adorno! Kelly is a former dancer, Pilates instructor and the owner of Movement Source (https://www.movementsource.com/), an intimate studio in Philadelphia that combines moving, learning, sweating, and laughing. We talk about Kelly's history as a backup dancer, how our fascia may have a memory and what it's like to teach a sweet group of folks at a senior center in South Philly. And most importantly, we discuss how Kelly's experience in dance and as a teacher has led her to develop her perspective that movement is truly for everyone.

Being Moved By Movement
Why do you move? In the first episode of Season 3, we explore our journeys with movement, from our very first memories of moving our bodies on bikes and in swimming pools to what changed in our 20s and 30s. We discuss movement as competition, as a way to be with ourselves and as conduits to joy. We also talk about Kelly McGonigal's fantastic book "The Joy of Movement," out now! Give us a listen and let us know what you think.
Running Into Our New Years
It has been a YEAR for us at The Art of Becoming. Literally one year ago we began this adventure and it has been an amazing one. In today's wrap up, we do a ritual where we reflect on 2019 and set intentions for 2020. We bring all of our tools to the table, from journaling and intention-setting to tarot and mind/body exercises. Have a listen and let us know if you do your own year-end and year-beginning ritual!
