Inside My Business: Skipping the Tech Nightmare

Inside My Business: Skipping the Tech Nightmare

I’m all about simplicity, because simplicity scales. If you want to grow your business and avoid a lot of stress in the process, keep things simple.

For many of you who have been listening to the podcast for a while, my affinity for simplicity should not come as a surprise. I talk about it often.

On today’s episode I’m going to give you an inside peek at how I run my business. I’m going to share with you the tools that I use to run the backend of The Art of Online Business. The tools that keep things simple around here, and keep things running smoothly.

The first few years of the business were way more complicated than they needed to be. For one, I thought that having more offers was a good idea. More offers equals more revenue, right? Well, I’ve learned the hard way that that’s not always the case.

All the complexity was causing me to burnout. The business was doing well, but I wasn’t happy in it.

So, today I’m going to show you the tools that have really simplified the way we do things around here. I know you’re going to get a lot out of today’s show, and I hope you hit me up on Instagram and let me know what you learned from this episode, and what things you’d like to learn more about.

Diana is a ton of fun to talk to. This interview lasted nearly an hour and a half. I was writing pages and pages of notes while she shared her insights.

In fact, there are so many good takeaways from our talk, that I’m going to split this interview into two parts.

Part one is this episode, and part two will be next week.

Case Study: 0% Churn!, with Ali Manning (Membership Series)

Case Study: 0% Churn!, with Ali Manning (Membership Series)

One of the key concerns membership business entrepreneurs have is retention. How long people are staying in your membership, and how to keep members from leaving.

Losing members is commonly called “churn,” and it’s constantly on the minds of many online creators that have a membership business.

If your churn rate is 5%, you’re doing pretty well. That’s the average figure in most membership businesses. You’re doing really well if you’ve gotten that number below 3%.

My guest on today’s show has essentially a 0% churn rate. Ali Manning is a bookbinder and book artist. In her membership she teaches people how to do bookbinding, and other crafting activities.

Most importantly, she’s achieving this phenomenal churn rate with an online membership that’s predominantly over 65 years of age, which is stereotypically the least tech-savvy age group.

Ali is blowing that stereotype out of the water. She’s built a thriving online community around her bookbinding and craft teaching, and her members stay subscribed for years and years.

Ali’s here to break down how she created her amazing membership, how she retains people, and how she provides so much incredible value to her members.
    In this episode, you’ll learn:

    How I Increased Revenue by 30% + Profit by 25% in 2021

    How I Increased Revenue by 30% + Profit by 25% in 2021

Today on the show I’m going to give you an overview of how things went last year for the business.

We just had our best year yet. In 2021, we increased revenue by 30%, and increased profit by 25%.

I started doing this in January of 2004, which means we’re coming up on 8 years for our online business. So, it’s taken this long to have the kind of year we just had.

But I’m okay with that, because we’re on a journey here. As the saying goes, it’s not about the destination, it’s about the journey.

With that said, I want to share some things I’ve learned over the past year. I want to talk about what worked well for us in 2021, and also talk about some things that did not work well for the business. I want you to maximize your successes, and learn from my mistakes.

I also want to share what our plans are for 2022.

Like I said, we’ve just had our best year ever, and I want you to do the same for your business.

It’s a great episode, and a great starting point for making 2022 your most successful year yet.

    In this episode, you’ll learn:
The fastest way to scale your businessHow to promote your flagship offerGetting more results with less workThe shift in how people are consuming contentShould you be focussing on list-building?A huge mistake I made in a recent hiring decisionHow to streamline your content creation and schedulingLinks & Resources Mentioned in this Episode:

Finally real actionable advice from an honest & legit guy

There are so many j.u.n.k. business podcasts out there with hosts who think they know it all yet are barely seeing results themselves. Or they’re just fluffy stories without real advice. Rick’s podcast is SO different! Been binging all the episodes (even the super early ones are still relevant) and love every show, even when the title doesn’t seem like it will apply to me (it somehow always does). Appreciate the insights that Rick and his guests share, really valuable stuff for people at 6-figs trying to get to 7 (there’s not much out there in this niche). Thanks so much Rick! Appreciate all the hard work from you and your team to put this content out. - Heidi
