In this podiobook: When a comet the size of a small moon threatens the remote world of Regal the Earth Alliance assigns the most decorated ship in the fleet, the Arwen, to destroy it. Its Captain, Marjorie Cook, sees this as an opportunity to redeem herself after a tragic mistake in her past causes the death of over 400 of her crew. Definitely worth a listen
This is one of my favorite podiobooks. It has a great storyline, characters that you can invest in and a world that you can really let your imagination go wild in. Highly recommended.
Old fashioned high stakes SciFi
If you’re looking for an old style science fiction story white aggressive sexism, and racism and ableism disguised in descriptions of aliens, plus logical gaps in the science and story structure, this series is for you. It makes me question the whole genre. Crew of space ship encounter a constant supply of very high-stakes situations. There’s a woman captain.
Hard to listen to
I have no problem with the actual story even though it is nothing ujnique. My problem is with the narrator. His voice is flat and unenthusiastic. It never changes or injects any emotion into the story. I had to concentrate very hard just to get the gist of what was happening. His voice never changes. It is read with a dead tone. No inflection, no mood changes, no emotion and no enthusiasm. It is as if someone made him read a book that he doesn't like. I wanted to like this, but it isn't worth the trouble.
