TAP037, How I Edit the Outline of a Novel Before Writing the First Draft

TAP037, How I Edit the Outline of a Novel Before Writing the First Draft

So, you've created an outline for your novel. And, now you're ready to start writing. Diving into writing the first draft seems like the first logical step. However, I recommend you slow down and edit the outline for your novel. I learned this lesson the hard way after publishing my first-in-series novella. To this day, I regret not going back and editing the outline for that novel. There were minor things that were not wrapped up at the end, that I believed wrapped up rather subtly, but the reader needed more clarity around. If I had edited the outline before starting to write the first draft, I would have fixed these issues before they were issues. By the time you get to the revision stage, it's difficult to see all the errors, especially if you're a new writer, and you don't have an established team of beta readers or a critique partner who is a little more seasoned than you.So stay tuned for all of this and much more.Podcasts, Books, and Tools MentionedCheck Out the Show Notes (https://authorpreneurpodcast.com/tap037/)TAP036, From Idea to Outline: How I Outline a Novel (Part 3) (https://authorpreneurpodcast.com/tap036/)TAP035, From Idea to Outline: How I Outline a Novel (Part 2) (https://authorpreneurpodcast.com/tap035/)TAP034, From Idea to Outline: How I Outline a Novel (https://authorpreneurpodcast.com/tap034/) (Part 1)Interested in the mini-course on how to outline a novel (https://authorpreneurpodcast.com/outline-a-novel/)?Am Writing Fiction Community by The Authorpreneur Podcast (Facebook Group) (https://www.facebook.com/groups/indieauthorpod)Support the show by buying me a coffee (https://www.buymeacoffee.com/authoradhay)Want the podcast straight to your inbox? TAP036, From Idea to Outline: How to Outline a Novel (Part 3 of 3)

TAP036, From Idea to Outline: How to Outline a Novel (Part 3 of 3)

Welcome to the third instalment of my mini-series on how I outline a novel. For those of you who are unaware, in the first episode, I discuss how I go from fleshing out a story idea to a basic outline. In episode TAP035, which is the second instalment in this three-part mini-series on outlining, I focused n sharing the steps in my outlining process that help me create a structurally sound story with scenes that actively move the story forward. And in this episode, I will share more of those steps, plus a bunch of things that I add to my outline spreadsheet that are purely there to help me outline that I don't necessarily use while writing the first draft. If you haven't listened to episodes TAP034 and TAP035, I highly recommend you pause here and go back and listen to those shows.About this EpisodeThis episode is not scripted because I want it to be a chat about how I outline a novel. In saying that, I have compiled a list of steps and broke down exactly how I outline a story. Each of these steps has a bullet point list of notes to help me stay on track. I'm sharing this with you so you know that I've thought about this episode in detail.Podcasts, Books, and Tools MentionedCheck Out the Show Notes (https://authorpreneurpodcast.com/tap036/)The Previous Episode (https://authorpreneurpodcast.com/tap035/)TAP034, From Idea to Outline: How I Outline a Novel (https://authorpreneurpodcast.com/tap034/)Scrivener (MacOS) (https://a.paddle.com/v2/click/49535/124256?link=2249) *Scrivener (Windows) (https://a.paddle.com/v2/click/49535/124256?link=2250)*Interested in the mini-course on how to outline a novel? TAP034, From Idea to Outline: How to Outline a Novel (Part 1 of 3)

Since 2014, I've written two novellas, one short story, and two full-length novels, three of which I have self-published. One novel is being rewritten because I wanted to change a story device and plot thread. For me, this second storyline was unrea...

BTS047, Issues with Apple Books, Cover Redesigns, and The Results of Using Advanced Reader Services

Throughout the preorder and launch period of the release of The Candidate, I experienced a series of frustrating issues with Apple Books. While I was struggling with Apple Books, I decided to redesign the ebook's cover, then I went on to design the paperback based upon this new theme. And, this new design had surprising results on the ARC giveaway for The Candidate. Also, I started paying attention to the results of using BookSirens and BookSprout. This led me to decide whether I recommend you use these Advanced Reader Services. So stay tuned for all of this and much more.Podcasts, Books, and Tools MentionedCheck Out the Show Notes (https://authorpreneurpodcast.com/bts047/)The Previous Episode (https://authorpreneurpodcast.com/bts046/)BookSprout (https://booksprout.co/)BookSirens (https://booksirens.com/)Goodreads (https://www.goodreads.com/)KDP Print (https://kdp.amazon.com/en_US/help/topic/G201834180)Ingram Spark (https://www.ingramspark.com)Nielsen ISBN Store (https://www.nielsenisbnstore.com/)(UK Only)Kindle Whisper-sync for Voice (https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/feature.html?ie=UTF8&docId=1000812303)BookBub (https://partners.bookbub.com/)The Authorpreneur Podcast Community on Facebook (https://www.facebook.com/groups/indieauthorpod)Support the show by buying me a coffee (https://www.buymeacoffee.com/authoradhay)Want the podcast straight to your inbox? KylaGardner ,

Helped me with my writing

I love the bite-size length of these episodes, and hearing about another's writer's experience and methods. Often, how-to books/info about writing can become quite pedantic or salesy, trying to convince you to follow their exact method and how it will solve all your problems. Refreshingly, Amanda is simply real and honest. I recently struggled to start revisions on my manuscript, but one of her tips has got me back into the work. Excited to keep following along with her journey!
