GM’s NewYear’s Layoff, Carvana Touts Same-Day, UPS Paycheck Share The Automotive Troublemaker w/ Paul J Daly and Kyle Mountsier

It’s Friday and we’re ready to toe the line with Retail Auto as we talk about GM layoffs, Carvana’s expansion of its same-day services, and one UPS driver who shares his paycheck and sparks some second thoughts from commenters. 
General Motors has announced a temporary halt in Chevy Bolt EV production, leading to layoffs of 1,314 workers at two Michigan plants.
GM has ceased production of the Chevy Bolt EV and EUV, resulting in 945 job cuts at the Lake Orion assembly plant. The plant is set for a transformation to produce future EV models.An additional 369 jobs will be lost at the Lansing Grand River Assembly plant with the end of Chevy Camaro Coupe production.GM plans a significant shift to its Ultium EV platform, with investments and retooling of the plant leading to the new Chevy Bolt EV reappearing on this new platform in 2025.In a notice to the state, GM noted that the reason they are announcing the layoffs so late were due to the slow ratification process of the UAW contract.Affected workers, particularly at the Orion plant, are being offered alternative opportunities in Michigan. This restructuring follows a new contract with the UAW, which included significant wage adjustments.Carvana is expanding its same-day delivery service to new markets in the South and Midwest
After introducing its same-day delivery service in November to Atlanta, Dallas-Fort Worth, Tampa, and Orlando, and has now extended it to Cincinnati and Columbus, Ohio.The service allows customers to buy a vehicle online and receive it the same day, emphasizing convenience and speed during the busy holiday season.Carvana senior director of market operations and expansion Jacqueline Hearns said in a news release, “Especially in the middle of a busy holiday season, customers value speed and convenience, and we couldn’t be happier to make car buying faster and easier than ever before for Columbus and Cincinnati-area residents with our new same day delivery offering.”Customers also have the option for same-day drop-off when selling their vehicles to Carvana at designated locations.A UPS driver's TikTok video revealing his weekly paycheck gains nearly 12 million views, sparking discussions about pay transparency and career choices in various industries.
