    Batgirl Film Gets Cancelled

    Batgirl Film Gets Cancelled

It was an interesting week in the Batman Universe. What started as a week the TBU Podcast would discuss the Snyder controversy turned into one of the biggest news pieces of the year. It was officially announced that the Batgirl film has been cancelled.

Originally the news broke from the New York Post and made its way through the major entertainment sites. The initial reasoning for the film’s cancellation was that the film was “irredeemable.” Immediately the hosts discuss whether this was the case or if these outsiders were looking to give a reason where they didn’t have one.

The other side of this is the massive shakeup within Warner Bros. Discovery, specifically with HBO Max. Over the past few months, some major changes have been happening at the streaming service as the ultimate combination of HBO Max and Discovery+ looms in the future. What does this mean for the rest of the Batman projects on the service?

While it is unfortunate that the Batgirl film was cancelled, the hope remains that outside of financial purposes, there is a plan in place for DC Films and that this film was a causality of the future of the franchise taking priority. Join Dustin, Adil, BJ, and Scott as they discuss the week’s big news and what it means for the future.

Finally, on the greater DC Universe side of things, the first trailer for Shazam! Fury of the Gods was released. With the film being the last theatrical film of 2022 from DC, are the expectations high going into the new movie?

    Summer 2022 Batman Comics Update

    Summer 2022 Batman Comics Update

A lot of the time, the podcast focuses on media rather than other areas of the Batman fandom. After all, we have a whole podcast dedicated to the comics side of things. But every once and a while, there are enough big things going on to discuss what’s happening in the world of comics. So today’s episode is an update for all the Batman comics for the summer of 2022.

To understand what is going on now with the comics, we have to go back. The last significant change for a lot of the series was in 2020. Tom King came off of Batman, while Peter Tomasi came off of Detective Comics. New creative teams came on to both series and stayed on the titles for an extended amount of time.

But then James Tynion abruptly left the Batman series in late 2021, and a fill-in creative team led by Joshua Willaimson came on board. Meanwhile, in the pages of Detective Comics, Mariko Tamaki was running full speed ahead with the title picking up to a weekly schedule for three straight months.

But as we get to the summer of 2022, the Batman comics experience another major update with the current creative teams wrapping up their time on the books in June and brand new creative teams coming on board in July. So where does that leave the Batman Universe? And what about all the other titles currently releasing or wrapping up, like Batman/Catwoman or The Joker? Find out as Dustin, Scott, and BJ discuss everything going on in the world of Batman comics.

    Batman Returns Retrospective

    Batman Returns Retrospective

2022 is a year that shares anniversaries with multiple projects. But this past month marked the thirtieth anniversary of the theatrical release of Tim Burton’s second Batman film. So today join us for a retrospective of Batman Returns.

When the film was released in 1992, it was met with some controversy. Is the film really dark or inappropriate for children? Was that controversy something that was smaller than it is made out to be? But rather than sticking to a topic we previously discussed on the podcast, we are here for the real highlights.

The first question, and possibly the most important one, is Batman Returns a Christmas movie? What did it mean to have a film with snow and the holiday season release in June? We also discuss the special effects by Stan Winston, the Red Triangle Gang, and the portrayal of the main three characters. Is this film actually a Batman film? Or is it a film with Batman in it?

The entire retrospective for Batman Returns wraps up on a simple yet complex topic. What’s Chip’s deal? The legacy of Chip is something that Bat-Fans around the world may never fully realize. His importance to not only the film, but his lasting legacy on the Batman mythos is something of legends.

So join Dustin, Scott, and BJ as they discuss all the topics of importance for Batman Returns.

    Bat-Nipples and More

    Bat-Nipples and More

It always seems like it is a great time to be a Bat-Fan. There are new films being released, television shows being greenlit, tons of merchandise, and a steady stream of merchandise. But there was a time when something divided the fandom and that thing was Bat-Nipples.

Bat-Nipples were something that was first added to the Bat-Suit in 1995 for Batman Forever. While for the film they seemed like an odd decision, in 1997, Batman and Robin amped it up even more. Over the years, there has been some explanation on why the Bat-Suit featured the anatomically correct areolas, but recently a couple of interviews have brought them back into view.

The first was an interview with the lead sculptor for the film, Jose Fernandez in which he discussed the infamous decision to include the nipples on the Bat-Suit. There also was an interview with Tim Burton on his decision not to return for a third film, but was oft-put by nipples on the Bat-Suit.

And while this topic might warrant an entire episode, there are other things to discuss as well. Does the Nightwing video released for Gotham Knights amp up the excitement for the game? What does the reveal of the name for the Joker sequel mean? And with Black Adam being a project planned for such a long time, what does it mean for the future of the DC Universe in film?

So come for the Bat-Nipples and catch all of the other big news topics from the past few weeks with Dustin, BJ, and Scott.

The Batman Soundtrack Reactions with Wires Don’t Talk

The Batman is the gift that keeps on giving for the TBU Podcast. This week we have a special guest join Scott to give reactions to The Batman soundtrack. Pat Grimes from Wires Don’t Talk is a music producer and gives his insight on what went into creating the soundtrack for the film.

In addition to giving reactions to The Batman soundtrack, the two also dive deep into the themes around the various tracks. They also do a comparison between how Michael Giacchino’s score stacks up with the music from Danny Elfman, Elliot Goldenthal, and Hans Zimmer. Which soundtrack does a better job for their film?

On top of the great breakdown of the soundtrack, the editor of the TBU Podcast joins the show to give a quick review of Batman: Unburied. This new Spotify project has seen great success in the charts, but does it translate that way for Bat-Fans? Listen and find out.

You can find Pat Grimes from Wires Don’t Talk on his website, over on YouTube, and you can follow him on Instagram. If there are other music projects you would like us to cover in the future, be sure to let us know.

Pretty good, respectful, knowledgeable podcast

Pretty good show, even if they seem to have stopped updating a long time ago. These guys are knowledgeable of everything Batman related and respectful of the various interpretations and adaptions. They are good fans.

Terrible Takes on The Batman

Just a bunch of whiney babies who go into moves looking for what not to like. Literally haven’t heard anyone try to be so negative about what was a really solid movie. Just a bunch of Twitter trolls with a podcast

Lacking knowledge in current topics

I just found this show today, and overall I liked it. But I don’t know how you can have a Batman podcast and not know a lot of the information that’s been out there for months. Regarding the new Batman film, flash and other topics you guys must have missed a lot of casting, storylines and info that we have already heard. I will continue to listen but do ALOT more research and be up to date on what you’re talking about.
