Fun by any means necessary- The birth of DIY culture- Episode 105
DJ Kingblind presents The Big Beat Music Podcast- This week we talk about & play the best music in a themed Podcast called "Fun by any means necessary- The birth of DIY culture" In opposition corporate rock and the dehumanization of arena rock and separating stars from their audiences. Mike Watt of the Minutemen (among others) counseled young punks to put on their own shows—following the ethic of DIY—or drive their own vans and junky cars on an emerging underground tour network. (He called this “jamming econo,” knowing it included sleeping on the floor of kids’ houses, not a luxury hotel.) Venues for punk shows were numerous, encompassing everything from pet grooming stores to nonprofit community centers. The small-venue approach lent itself to the formation of a self-regulating community. This week we tell their story in words and music

The UK labels that saved 70's Rock- Episode 104
DJ Kingblind presents The Big Beat Music Podcast- This week we talk about & play the best music in a themed Podcast called "The UK labels that saved 70's rock" Outside the record companies a new breed of entrepreneur was emerging to exploit this musical revolution: managers, promoters, booking agents, publicists. They were watching the fast-moving trends closely and, more importantly, they knew and understood the new music in a way that most record company people didn’t. They realized that instead of simply giving the artist to the record company they could record the artist themselves and then license the result to a record company for manufacture and distribution. You could even form your own record company and have your own label. This week we tell their story in words and music. Here all about it at DJKingblind.com

Inventions That Changed Music: Distortion- Episode 102
DJ Kingblind presents The Big Beat Music Podcast- This week we talk about & play the best music in a themed Podcast called "Inventions that changed music- Distortion" Distortion and overdrive are forms of audio signal processing used to alter the sound of amplified electric musical instruments, usually by increasing their gain, producing a "fuzzy", "growling", or "gritty" tone. Distortion is most commonly used with the electric guitar, but may also be used with other electric instruments such as electric bass, electric piano, and Hammond organ. Guitarists playing electric blues originally obtained an overdriven sound by turning up their vacuum tube-powered guitar amplifiers to high volumes, which caused the signal to distort. While overdriven tube amps are still used to obtain overdrive, especially in genres like blues and rockabilly, a number of other ways to produce distortion have been developed since the 1960s, such as distortion effect pedals. The growling tone of a distorted electric guitar is a key part of many genres, including blues and many rock music genres, notably hard rock, punk rock, hardcore punk, acid rock, and heavy metal music, Here all about it at DJKingblind.com

The 27 Club- Episode 101
DJ Kingblind presents The Big Beat Music Podcast- This week we talk about & play the best music in a themed Podcast called "The 27 Club" The 27 Club has become one of the most elusive and remarkably tragic coincidences in rock & roll history. The term became widely known after Kurt Cobain’s death in 1994, with rock fans connecting his age to that of Jim Morrison, Janis Joplin, Brian Jones and Jimi Hendrix – though it was notable to fans in the early 1970s when those four visionaries died within just two years of each other. When Amy Winehouse passed away at age 27 in 2011, it attracted even more attention to the significance of the age. While the club has been largely connected to musicians, it has expanded since, as many young actors and artists have lost their lives due to everything from addiction to suicide to freak accidents. Here are some of the unfortunate and untimely losses connected to the club. Here all about it at DJKingblind.com
