The Black Tapes

The ending SUCKED. It’s a huge disappointment because the rest of the podcast was so promising. Edit: Listening to this pod again after 5y, I think I was a little to harsh! I was so invested and excited about the story and I ended up feeling a little let down. But this an amazing podcast—my disappointment only goes to show how riveting the show is.

millions of crabs emerging from beneath the sand. “ In all my years of observing wild creatures..” The soothing voice says as the crabs form groups to carry away beach bags containing clothing without people noticing. “Have I ever seen such exquisite coordination of activity in invertebrate animals that are not the social insects. What can have sparked this extraordinary change in behavior?” Sir David Attenborough asks from a different part of the beach.

Don’t waste your time, listening to this podcast. It is unfinished and appears that it never will be. They stopped in the middle of the third season more than five years ago. there is no resolution, no ending. What a waste of time. Don’t waste your time.

I’m giving Pacific Northwest 5 stars for production values & for the imaginative inclusion of many RL mysteries, conspiracy tropes, and weird fiction. BUT the level of frustration and, yes, anger I’ve seen posted over the lack of denouement here (and with “Tanis”) stands as a warning against investing time. Life doesn’t always come with closure so the “ending” of Tanis may reflect that; not to mention that the series was presented as documentary material… perhaps MK and Nic Silver were silenced—i.e., killed. An interesting plot development but that’s a one trick pony. In other words, it doesn’t explain the abrupt ending of multiple podcasts. What’s up with that? I finished Season One and some of S2 of Tanis and began “Black Tapes” to hear how that goes.
