The Triggernometry Show - Andrew - Movie Armourer - Firearms Safety on Set

It would be pretty hard to have missed the recent incident involving firearms on a movie set recently.

I had Andrew on, a Movie Armourer who has worked on several large sets about firearms safety during filming and in general – because the same principles you apply day-to-day should be used when hunting or when handing or taking a firearm.

    Also discussed:

Cultural (and legal) differences that potentially lead to the recent event
Which guns are real, which are fake
Why CGI likely won’t take over actual firearms soon
    Much more

The audio is a little crackly for some reason on this one.

The Triggernometry Show - Live - Ammo, choices, choices and more choices!

The Triggernometry Show - Live - Ammo, choices, choices and more choices!

Ammo. Factory, custom, reloading, handloading - what really is the difference - how much difference is there - and what is the most 'bang for your buck'?

There is a lot of information, misinformation and borderline confusion over ammo on the internet. In this video, we all try our best to add to it!

Diversions tonight include some history of international conflict from Graeme and Safari hunting from Dirk!

We also have a few kids trying to get in on the action this week. Excuse the random appearances!

    MIX - Filtersahoyhoy

    MIX - Filtersahoyhoy

    Ah. The Filterbrats.

What happens when you take a Black Metal drummer and songwriter and a Minimal Techno Music Engineer – A Filtered French Disco Duo. Of course!

I originally met Clayon many, many years ago playing at the Papakura sound bowl. He was playing with the band, I was the in-between-bands-DJ. By memory, the set I played involved a lot of Orbital and borderline Ambient. He was playing hard metal.

We kicked it off, started hanging, started mixing tunes (we have a mutual love of The Prodigy) together and eventually started writing tunes together.

We often found ourselves playing the ‘B’ room of Hard House gigs (the style Clayton initially mainly DJed. Our sets were a mix of tunes heavily influenced by the Daft Punk / Crydamoure / Le Knights style from France. Though – I think half the fun was just keeping each other on their toes by dropping in something unexpected (at least, that was generally my plan – I was playing for Clayton more than the crowd).

There is a couple of albums worth of material online – you can still purchase it via Beatport and other sources – and we licenced some tunes for inclusion on a Game – which resulted in a humourous interaction between Clayton and a ripped tune uploader on Youtube.

The mix though is a combination of our songs and others.

Mix - Lost in the Dyb

Mix - Lost in the Dyb

Dub music means different things to different people.

My introduction was, I think, through the likes of Smith & Mighty – certainly my introduction was by way of Techno – so I lean more on the sparse, deep and moody side of things compared to what I would call Reggae Dub – ‘skank’ with more organs, guitars and references to ‘Ja’.

I guess, to me, Dub is the Delay – dark, modulated delays that conjure the image of a ‘mad professor’, maybe even THE Mad Professor sitting at a mixing desk using the sends to push audio into a Roland Space Echo or some old guitar pedal, back through the desk and riding the faders into eternity.

Anyhow – the mix is a bit of that, a bit of techno and a few other things as well. I thoroughly enjoyed making it, I hope you enjoy listening to it.

    Good Blokes - David Benfell

Welcome to Good Blokes - the podcast I have been wanting to make for over 20 years now. This is a chat with David Benfell, an NZ and Bristish Vetren who faced the very real possibility of never walking again after a Parachuting Accident broke his spine.

It’s a great chat. Two guys dropping their guard a bit and just talking.

There is so much in here.

His time serving in the NZ and British Military in Iraq, Afghanistan and Northern Ireland, ‘Spicy’ Tours and busy times ‘on the job’, Dealing with IED’s and the mindset it produces, Joining the Red Devils parachute display team and dealing with a fear of heights (really), Separating the people on the ground and the politics that sent them there, Developing friendships post-deployment, Men's search for meaning and purpose – the immediacy of combat and the abstract aspect of modern life, Finding the mission and the importance of finding the next mission to reintegrate, Going with the flow vs intention and direction in life, Dealing with massive injuries, recuperating surrounded by others with drive, finding the new norms, Instagram ‘influencers’, selling a ‘brand’ and selfies vs. creating content, Relationships and dealing with splits
Men’s groups – creating environments to have deep conversations with other men, beyond bravado, Getting back into hunting and the outdoors, munter hunters, respect for the animal, SSAANZ – the development of a new charity for Veterans.
