The Black Girl with Expert Dr. Hyacinth Dyer

In this episode, I focus on culture as a variable. Educating the young Black girl is becoming an increasing problem for American educators. The Black girl is characterized as sassy, aggressive, bossy, and disrespectful. Here to discuss the topic of Black girls in the American educational system is Dr. Hyacinth Dyer. She is an expert in this field and has examined the experiences of the Black girl in the K-12 public school system in her study, Education and the Black Girl, and determined effective strategies that teachers can use to better meet her needs for success.

Reading and Hyflex Learning as a Teacher with Erin Phillips

Reading and Hyflex Learning as a Teacher with Erin Phillips

In this episode, teacher Erin Phillips joins Dr. Lisa Hassler to discuss the reading crisis and  how implementing online strategies  can help. Mrs. Phillips taught middle school, 3rd grade, and is currently in kindergarten. She discusses her experiences with students at reading different levels and how she modifies her teaching strategies to meet the needs of her students with success. What are the benefits to including an online platform in your mainstream classroom? Listen to find out.
Since the recording of this interview, I have learned a new term: hyflex, ,meaning hybrid (face-to-face and online) and flexible (choices). Taking the recorded live stream video component out of this term, I believe that it is a better description of the classroom model Erin and I are discussing in this interview.
