EP#28 Gratitude & My Quarantine Birthday

This week I celebrated my birthday, May 13 during quarantine. This was a first, but it actually was a great birthday. I have so much to be thankful for and I am blessed. I want to thank each and every one for listening to a podcast episode, subscribing, leaving a review and being a part of The CHW Crew tribe! A time of reflection, love and gratitude were my focus for this year around the sun. Many blessings to you all!

EP#26 Virtual Education for CHWs with Quisha Umemba MPH, RN, CDCES, CHWI

Now that we are going into our third week of the quarantine lifestyle, many professionals are shifting to virtual technology and utilizing it to continue the work of outreach, seeing patients and continuing care. If organizations haven't thought about incorporating a virtual concept to offer their audience, after this pandemic it will certainly be a conversation. Today Quisha Umemba is speaking about how her company Umemba Health LLC is meeting those clients and community health workers who need professional development continuing education where they are, literally in their own homes using their phone, tablet or laptop.
Quisha Umemba is a Bachelors prepared Registered Nurse with a Masters degree in Public Health.  She is a Certified Diabetes Care and Education Specialist, a Certified Lifestyle Coach, and a Certified Community Health Worker Instructor.  She also holds a certificate in health ministry.  As a Diabetes Care and Education Specialist, Quisha consults with community organizations, social service agencies, government agencies, and healthcare systems to help them prevent and manage diabetes, prediabetes, and associated chronic diseases in their client populations.
Having had gestational diabetes, and now living with prediabetes, Quisha’s passion for helping individuals impacted by chronic disease stems from both a patient and provider perspective.  An advocate for health equity; her life’s mission is to empower, educate, and promote  optimal health and wellness for all.  To this effort, she founded Umemba Health, a virtual health and wellness company with a virtual learning platform (Umemba Health Academy) devoted to the education and training of the healthcare consumers (patients) and the healthcare provider (professionals).
In addition to her years of experience and specialized education, Quisha is a qualified peer educator and mentor.  In 2018, she was nominated for the Texas Southern University&  Preceptor of the Year Award, and in 2020 she was selected as a National Association of Chronic Disease Directors Peg Adams Peer Mentor.  Quisha is often invited as a featured speaker and presenter at community events, churches, seminars, symposiums, conferences, and professional meetings.
