    Leadership involves more than giving orders. Effective leaders walk the talk. In this audio from his presentation, David discusses what he believes are the necessary qualities of leadership, presented through humor and his factual accounts.

    Bio: One of the most passionate athlete safety advocates you will meet, David Csillan is currently a part time athletic trainer with The Hun School in Princeton, NJ. David holds a Bachelor's Degree in Physical Education with a focus on Athletic Training from Trenton State College (now The College of New Jersey) and a Master's Degree in Athletic Training from Old Dominion University. Prior to The Hun School he served as an athletic trainer at Ewing High School in New Jersey since 1991. Additionally, he provided medical services for events like the TCS New York City Marathon and Special Olympics New Jersey. During his career, David played a pivotal role in advancing the athletic training profession. He was President of the Athletic Trainers' Society in New Jersey, helping the state pass legislation to award certificates and tenure to eligible secondary school athletic trainers. He also worked on transitioning New Jersey's Athletic Training Practice Act from registration to licensure. David co-chaired the NATA Inter-Association Task Force on Preseason Heat Acclimatization Guidelines for Secondary School Athletics and led New Jersey to be the first state to adopt these guidelines, and has presented on this topic through various media outlets. In 2018, he collaborated with multiple organizations to develop policies aimed at reducing secondary school athletic catastrophic injuries in New Jersey. He co-authored NATA position statements on exertional heat injuries and the prevention of sudden death in athletics. David held leadership roles in NATA District Two and currently chairs the NATA District Secretaries'/Treasurers' Committee, co-chairs the EATA '49 Club Committee and 75th Anniversary Committee, and serves as a reviewer for the NATA Journal of Athletic Training and on the Editorial Board for Training and Conditioning magazine. His contributions to the field have earned him induction into several Halls of Fame, including the National Athletic Trainers' Association, New Jersey State Interscholastic Athletic Association, Athletic Trainers' Society of New Jersey, and Ewing High School Athletics.

As the president of Essential Communications and a founding coach at Corporate Coaching International, Tom also serves as a senior coach with Aria Consulting, Arden Coaching, and Volition Enterprises.

    Beyond his professional endeavors, Tom contributes as a volunteer coach for emerging female global leaders through The Coaching Fellowship. He actively participates in various organizations, serving on the advisory board of The Actors Fund and as board chair at The Foundation for Excellence in Education. Tom is a past president of the Los Angeles chapter of the Association for Talent Development (formerly ASTD) and received their Lifetime Award for his continuous contributions to the field of Learning & Development in 2010. He is also an engaged member of the International Coach Federation, Los Angeles, where he hosts the Executive Coaching Special Interest Group.

    Chris Flores, ATC aka “FLO” author of “Build Your Legacy” is a father, entrepreneur, professor, and personal coach. He has been in the fitness industry for over 20 years. He’s driven by a passion and love for working with people and seeing the changes in their lives. Chris attended Kean University for his B.S. in Athletic Training. He was previously the head Athletic Trainer at Westfield High School in New Jersey for 10 years, and is returning to this role full time in the fall of 2023. He is the owner of a personal training studio called Flo Fitness. Chris is an adjunct professor at Kean University where he teaches strength fitness, personal fitness and animal flow. He is also a Master Instructor for the company Animal Flow and teaches movement-based training for people around the globe. All these jobs and positions helped him learn about people. When he became a father, he pulled from all his life experiences to write the book “Build Your Legacy”. It is a guide and blueprint for his children as well as for others to help teach them how to navigate life and build their own legacies.

    With over 30 years of experience in healthcare administration, Anthony "Tony" Cava, MS, RPH, FACHE, is the former President and CEO of Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital Somerset, part of RWJBarnabas Health. Under his leadership from 2015 through the end of 2022, Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital Somerset underwent significant growth and renovations. In 2017, Tony oversaw the opening of the state's first hospital-based primary care center for the LGBTQIA community. Before joining RWJBarnabas Health, Mr. Cava held various hospital leadership positions, including Chief Operating Officer for Bayshore Medical Center and roles at Riverview Medical Center, Monmouth Medical Center Southern Campus, and St. Joseph's Wayne Hospital. He earned his bachelor's degree in Pharmacy from St. John's University College of Pharmacy in New York and a master's degree in Clinical Pharmacy and Administration from St. John's University College of Pharmacy and Allied Health. He is a registered pharmacist and a member of several professional organizations, including the American Society of Health System Pharmacists and the American College of Healthcare Executives. Apart from his healthcare responsibilities, he actively participates in various organizations, including serving on the Raritan Valley Community College Foundation Board and Finance and Investment Committee, NJHA Audit and Compliance Committee, and NJHA Healthcare Business Solutions Board. He is also involved with the Somerset County Business Partnership Executive Committee and SCBP Strategic Plan Committee.

    Bios:
    Joshua Jimenez, ATC (jimenezjosh73@gmail.com) is a sales consultant for H-Wave. He attended Montclair State University for his athletic training degree and started his career as an athletic trainer in the secondary school setting, with clinical and industrial settings positions following that. Josh transitioned to working in the operating room as a Mako Product Specialist with Stryker that further led him to explore the world of medical devices. This led to his current position as a sales consultant with H-Wave, helping battle the opiate crisis and helping people get back to their life using an amazing product. His interests are in business, technology, and medicine.

    Andrew Nesbitt CSCS, USAW, EP-C, RPR (NesbittA95@gmail.com) is a clinical specialist in the neuromodulation division of Boston Scientific. He partners with pain management physicians, orthopedic surgeons, and neurosurgeons to treat patients suffering from chronic neuropathic pain. Andrew is a graduate of The College of New Jersey where he earned a bachelor's degree in exercise science and, after graduation, worked as a strength and conditioning coach in the high school, college, and private settings. He later went on to earn a master’s degree in athletic training and, prior to working at Boston Scientific, was employed as an athletic trainer at Bergen Catholic High School.

Great Insight for ATCs

Ryan offers great commentary and insight to the profession of Athletic Training, as well as for improving life as a whole. Ryan is a great source of wisdom, his interviews are equally insightful, and thoughtful! As a young professional, this podcast has brought me to better understand the world of Athletic Training! Ryan, thank you for putting this together, I look forward to following along and to hearing what’s next!

Moving ATCs Forward

Ryan does a great job with this podcast and I think the unique take he has on it makes it invaluable to the athletic training profession. We had the chance to interview Ryan it was a gold mine of information. Ryan’s support for the greater good of athletic training, not only in his job/career but also through this podcast is fantastic and worth highlighting.
