Bonus Episode: "Scam Frameworks" & Hopium

Bonus Episode: "Scam Frameworks" & Hopium

Recently, I read the article "Why Successful People Don’t Teach Success: Gurus, income experts, and business coaches preach personal success systems" by Jim Clair.  Unfortunately, some of these personal success systems don't actually help you achieve that success... they mostly just take your money and leave you empty-handed.

    Key topics:

✔️ Con artists use a formula. We can see this in many cases of snake oil salesmen and pyramid schemes.
✔️ Some of these gurus rocket to the top with a gimmick and then find themselves bankrupt almost as fast. If their system truly worked, why would that happen?
✔️ Can you really  work a four hour work week and make a living wage? Does anyone still believe that anymore?
✔️ In his article "Tim Ferriss's Scam Framework and the Rise of Fake Gurus," Pete Williams calls out the model of fake expertise that he believes Ferriss advocates for in his book. He also calls out the model of starting a business to not run it - essentially just starting a "hollow enterprise."

    Saturday Broadcast 17

    Key topics:

    ✔️ ICYMI news, 9/19 - 9/23.
✔️ It's funny that these cities are telling people to have bug out bags but then at the same time acting like "nothing to see here, no big deal, no need to worry." What?!
✔️ It's also funny that the "pandemic is over" once Corpo America wanted everyone to RTO and sit in the Cube Farm again. What a coincidence.
✔️ I warned you about weaponized PIPs and performance reviews earlier this summer. Now we're here.

Why I Quit the Free and Low Cost Platforms

Why I Quit the Free and Low Cost Platforms

In my 🔮 Prediction Alert: We Will See More Rip-Off Artists episode from September 8th, I talked about: "Jean Anouilh said, 'What you get free costs too much.' Touché. Sometimes what you give for free also costs too much." In this episode, I will pull the curtain back and discuss why I chose to quit the free and low cost platforms. As always: this is not advice. Just me opining for your entertainment only.

✔️ Why I unpublished my free educational courses.
✔️ Why I unpublished my Patreon page.
✔️ How I used the Pareto Principle to regain more time... and sanity!
✔️ The idea that if you give the whole candy store away for free, it will automatically draw people in and gift you with paying customers, has not been highly accurate in my experience. Sometimes it feels more like you are pushing things out at a financial loss. Not to mention the time drain involved.

    ⚠️ Emergency Message: It's Happening! ⚠️

    ⚠️ Emergency Message: It's Happening! ⚠️

    Another prediction vindicated. Sadly.

I have been warning you for months on my blog and on this podcast (as well as anywhere else that will listen) that, IMO, the labor market is being used as a straw man. Looky over here at this hawt job market! Why, we couldn't possibly be in a recession, right? Right? RIGHT?!

Now here we are. Yesterday, CNBC published the video, "Will This Recession See Massive Layoffs?" which you can find here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qUJsts5qvoc

This is why I say repeatedly: I believe you are playing a dangerous game if you are waiting to be "officially" told that the economy is in trouble. This video is such a depressing yet elegant example of why I have said that.

Bonus Episode: Well Being, Shmell Being

    Do Gooder Fatigue? 😆

    Key topics:

✔️ How many managers have you had that you felt were a true breath of fresh air and a bright spot in your day?
✔️ If you made a job change during The Great Resignation was it more about money or was it because you worried about the company's ability to prioritize your emotions? I'm willing to bet it was the former, not the latter.
✔️ "Back to school vibes" for grown adults.  🙄
✔️ Larry Winget's book It's Called Work For a Reason  doesn't really account for what happens when Corpo America doesn't live up to its side of the bargain, IMO. I mean . . . *gestures towards the Enron scandal*

    Key topics:

    ✔️ ICYMI news, 9/12 - 9/16.
✔️ Corporate America is rapidly transitioning from the carrot to the stick. No more free coffee or niceties. Git'cher butt back in that cube!
✔️ Is a white collar recession coming? *Looks around*  Is it not already here?
    ✔️ $1400 is the new $400.
✔️ A slight decrease in gas prices is not nearly as impressive to me as seeing the prices of daily necessity items like, ya know, food starting to decrease. And I do not see that so far.
