What does it take to be a college cheerleader? with Texas Tech Coach, Bruce Bills: REPLAY

What does it take to be a college cheerleader? with Texas Tech Coach, Bruce Bills: REPLAY

Original Air Date: Nov. 1, 2022
You asked, and we listened. By popular demand, it's an episode all about college cheer! And I got to talk to one of the best in the industry: The head coach of Texas Tech cheer, Bruce Bills.
Coach Bruce has been involved with this program for TWENTY. YEARS. He led the Tech coed team to their first large coed D1 Championship. He's been named coach of the year by the College STUNT Association. He knows what he's talkin' about, and he was so gracious to spend some time with me.
I took to our Facebook group and asked you all what you would ask a college coach. You had great questions, and coach Bruce answers all of them in this episode. Questions like, what does it take to be a college cheerleader? Are clinics required? Do athletes need to have a cheer social media account, and if you're a girl, can you make the team if you're not a flyer or tumbler? This episode is highly informative, and I know you'll enjoy it!

Getting Involved with Style and Pizzaz, with a Firestorm Cheer Dad

Getting Involved with Style and Pizzaz, with a Firestorm Cheer Dad

Today we are talking with a very special cheer dad. His name is Steven and we talk about how he and his fellow cheer dads started a movement in their gym, and how that is now spreading to other programs. You may have seen groups out there where the dads are the hype squad - they die their beards (the glitter ones are the best), they wear bright colors, matching jackets, they roll in with their rolling stereo and hype their athletes up. It's something that is just so special.
Listen to the episode and learn a little more about how it all got started and where it came from. Thanks, Steven!

Rebel Feature Model and Navarro Cheerleader, Samantha Ryan

Rebel Feature Model and Navarro Cheerleader, Samantha Ryan

Cheer has taken Samantha Ryan all over the world, and has catapulted her into becoming a beloved role model in the industry. She has participated on teams at every level, and is currently in her second year as a Navarro Cheerleader.
Samantha talks with me about her young days in cheer, cheer hairstyles, and even the 'competition morning attitude.' She gets vulnerable too, and opens up about topics that she wishes more people in cheer would talk about.
This is such a special episode for both parents and athletes!

Off the Cheer Emotional Roller Coaster

As a newer cheer mom I’ve come to realize how emotional this sport truly is. One week we’re elated by the teamwork and excitement and the next we are completely defeated and ready to call it quits. I was at such a loss with these feelings and thought I was all alone. Today the Cheer Mom Podcast saved my mental health. In an extremely low moment I scrolled through the episodes and found “5 signs it might be time to leave your cheer gym.” Within the first few minutes I felt like a best friend was sitting across the table and giving me the greatest advice on these extremely tough situations. I finally had someone vocalize the feelings and serious concerns I had but couldn’t understand what to do about them. Thank you for what you do and your dedication to helping other parents navigate this amazing sport. You have no idea how much you’ve helped a little cheerleader and her mama.

Thank you from a D2 Gym in CT

I just started listening to your podcast last week on my commute to work and home. I am in awe of how much information I learned in the 7 days it took me to binge. Thank you for explaining the cheer world to us in layman terms. I appreciate all the tips and pointers that you share with us. I am a team mom and I was feeling really hopeless until I listened to your podcast. Don’t stop! Also, my daughters team is the first youth team we have at our gym, and we made it to Youth Summit. We hope to see you there :)

Competition Day

Last year my girls were 8 and 10. I gave them slime or playdoh to mess with while getting their hair done. It helped so much!
