    Megan Martin/Furnish Hope

Just three short years after furnishing home number one, the Central Oregon non-profit, Furnish Hope, recently furnished home #1000.  Furnish Hope, whose mission is to Furnish empty houses for those in need, was established in 2019 by long time Central Oregon resident Megan Martin.  On episode 31 of The Circling Podcast, Megan shares the vision of Furnish Hope, a vision where marginalized families in our community have a place to call home by transforming empty houses into warm, welcoming homes for those in need of furniture and household essentials.  Recently Furnish Hope opened a new retail boutique in the Old Iron Works Art District in Bend. Through the resale of community donated upscale home furnishings and décor, this brick-and-mortar storefront aides in supporting the mission and is proving to be a unique way for Furnish Hope recipients to choose the finishing touches for their homes. Thanks Megan. Thank you for taking the time to share your story and the story of Furnish Hope. To say the work that you and your team are doing is changing lives, well, that would be an understatement.

On episode 30 of The Circling Podcast, I sit down with Josh Suran, the human on the other side of  the trending  social medial handle @josh_reports.  A Central Oregon native, Josh delivers daily micro doses of amateur weather reporting along with an up to date ski report, usually from the lifts of Mt. Bachelor and always with the highest level of stoke and sometimes a beard braid. Josh Shares his story of growing up in Central Oregon, his love of being outside, the nature of his positive vibes and the life experiences that have led to him developing quite the following on multiple social media platforms. Josh and I recorded this episode in the back of his retired 2009 Ford F-350 Ambulance on the streets of Tumalo Oregon. I apologize for the hum of the ambulance generator charging in the background on occasion, but it adds to the experience. Yo Josh, thank you. Thank you for the fun lines today and the conversation tonight. I’m excited to cheer for your successes as you continue to deliver daily doses of stoke that truly seems to flow from a thankful heart. Be well man.

    Kevin Boss/Boss Sports Performance

    Kevin Boss/Boss Sports Performance

In 2007, Kevin Boss was drafted to the New York Giants and went on to win a Super Bowl later that season. After 6 seasons in the NFL, Kevin and his family moved back to their home state of Oregon and In 2014, Kevin opened BOSS Sports Performance. Nearly ten years later, BOSS has grown to become a state-of-the-art strength and conditioning facility, inspired both by the professional facilities Kevin trained in during his time in the National Football League, and the no gimmicks, no fads and no shortcuts mindset he was exposed  to throughout his athletic career. Today, Kevin and his team train athletes of all ages and ability levels, helping them reach their fullest athletic potential by practicing science backed, evidenced based strength and conditioning techniques in a safe, positive and encouraging atmosphere.  BOSS Sports Performance continues to grow, likely due to the simplicity of their time-tested core values: Inspiration, Discipline, Community, Integrity and Fun.  On episode 29, Kevin takes a moment to sit down and share a bit more of his story. Join me as Kevin and several other members of the Boss  Sports Performance family shine a light on just some of the reasons why the parking lot is full at 5:30 am and people are grinding. Thanks for your time Kevin. It seems clear that you’re making the transition well from world class athlete to world class boss, no pun intended.

    Pete Alport/Photographer/Videographer

    Pete Alport/Photographer/Videographer

On episode 28, I’m joined by longtime central Oregonian Pete Alport.  An award-winning photographer, videographer and producer, Pete has called Central Oregon home since  moving in 1994 after a traumatizing childhood growing up in Portland Oregon.  Pete has, and continues to influence and  shape the growth of Central Oregon through the quality and creativity of the content he captures.  With subjects ranging  from many of the world’s best outdoor athletes to some of the most remote landscapes in our backyard, Pete’s work resonates strongly  with both those who call Central Oregon  home and those who appreciate the magic found in nature.   Known for an unrelenting work ethic driven by passion and fueled by life experience and the love of nature, Pete has the gift of seeing opportunity and possibility where others don’t.   Yo Pete, Thanks for continuing to produce content that keeps your community hyped on getting outside. And a special thank you for your level of humility and vulnerability during our conversation. You’re a significant human and a significant member of our community that we can all learn from.

    Robert Rube/Pura Vida Surf Shop

    Robert Rube/Pura Vida Surf Shop

In 1975 Robert Rube was in 5th grade and moved to Oahu where his dad was stationed in the United States Army.  Living in Hawaii during his adolescence, Robert developed a relationship with the ocean and his surfboard that has been a consistent influence in his life. In 2004, while on a surf trip to Costa Rica, Robert was introduced to the concept of “Pura Vida.”  Directly translated as “pure life” or “simple life,” Pura Vida is better understood as way of life. A way of life that left such an impression on Robert that in 2005,  he and his business partner, long time NW surfer Al Krieger, opened Pura Vida Surf Shop in the small town of Philomath Oregon.  In 2016, Pura Vida Surf Shop moved costal and is now located in Otter Rock Oregon, just across the street from the stairs leading down one of Oregon’s most popular central coast breaks.  Join me on episode 26, as I have the good fortune to sit down with Robert and hear the story behind the shop that exists to bring the spirit of Pura Vida to Oregon Surfing.  Thanks for your time Robert, the welcoming vibe that you and your staff create in Otter Rock is what it’s all about. I enjoyed our conversation and look forward to our next one.
