    Examining that which offends you

    Examining that which offends you

Ep #116 - Somehow it seems that our society is entrenched in its own version of isolation and segregation. We are openly choosing to separate ourselves from those that think, feel, and behave differently at a time when inclusion and connection are the answer to our deepest issues, problems, and fears.

It is time we open our hearts and welcome those who have transgressed against the cultural movement toward equality. No matter if it was five minutes ago or 50 years - excluding people from the tribe, from the herd, from the flock because they have said or behaved inappropriately is not going to guide them toward the open-mindedness we are so fervently seeking in our communities and societies.

Mistakes happen every day. Are we going to ostracize those that break against the grain or be the guiding light that shows them a better way to conduct themselves and on the other side of that is the world in which we all desire to live.

Just hit play and let's dive in with our open minds, hearts, and energies bringing everyone into the fold - you are in the right place, at the right time...right now.

    Conflict Avoidance

    Conflict Avoidance

Ep #115 - Conflict avoidance is you not speaking your truth to someone because you are afraid of the outcome. Your partner leaves a mess and you are cursing them in your head. Your roommate eats your food and leaves dishes in the sink and you are secretly calculating how you are going to eat all their food and leave dirty dishes in their pillow case.

These examples are the easy, funny ones - but what about the conversations you are avoiding about your grades, your partying, and your behaviors that you aren't stepping into with your parents, friends, and loved ones because you are deathly afraid of their response?

The longer you avoid the conflict the deeper it screws into your skull. The bigger the story of the horrors that await you become in your psyche and ALL of this deeply effects your stress, anxiety, and overall emotional health.

How many addictions, depressions, and suicides can we as a society avoid if we STOP AVOIDING CONFLICT.

Today I will discuss how conflict avoidance has been haunting me like a silent emotional vampire and how I am committed to changing this behavior in myself for the betterment of everyone around me, my loved ones, my inner circle - and most importantly, myself.

Just hit play and let's dive in with our open minds, hearts, and energies bringing everyone into the fold - you are in the right place, at the right time...right now.

Stand up, step forward, raise your hand - it's your turn, I will call on you.

Cognitive Dissonance: Conflicting Beliefs and Actions

Cognitive Dissonance: Conflicting Beliefs and Actions

Ep #114 - You know how you feel when your actions don't match up with what you say you are doing in your life, or when you believe you are a good person and then you gossip about someone, or you think you are a good student but then you go out and drink the night before a test - or like, literally, before the test.

This energy you feel inside of you, this disharmony inside of you is called "Cognitive Dissonance." You know when you feel this. You can lie all you want to the outside world but you conscious and unconscious mind are watching - they know better than believe the lies you try to tell them.

There is a way out of this distortion. There is a simple 3-step process that you can use today to begin to bring harmony between what you say and what you do.

You can keep blindly going about life expecting everything to just "sunshine on a dog's butt" kinda way - or you can actively seek and pursue your highest sense of self.

Either way time is going to move forward. Wouldn't you rather be sitting in your seat of personal power rather than being tooled around by a conflict between what you say versus what you do?

Stand up, step forward, raise your hand - it's your turn, I will call on you.

    Paradox of Choice

    Paradox of Choice

Ep #113 - There are a plethora of choices for you to make in your life. Trillions and trillions of choices you will make. Some will benefit you and others not so much. Being mindful of how you make your decisions and being clear about what you desire from your choices will be your guide to creating the life you desire from your time in college.

BUT...college isn't just about preparing for the future. So much of the college experience is about seizing the hundreds and hundreds of options you have to expand your horizons. Paying attention to what you can do while there and thinking and ruminating on what you might look back on and wish you had tried while attending university will offer you the opportunity to be clear and precise in making your decisions about what to do with the little "free time" you have on a day-to-day basis.

Stand up, step forward, raise your hand - it's your turn, I will call on you.

Upped my game

Jesse, thank you for this podcast its AWESOME!

These are the tips that I wasn’t expecting, but surprisingly needed. This podcast has helped my reframe my mindset on various points that have helped me create opportunities for success. This hasn’t only helped my grades, but my mental health. I recommend it to my classmates.

One of the worst human beings I've ever heard speak.

I just listened to all I could stomach of the episode "Anger could ruin your life." This person should not offer advice to college students. After he shared a story about how he almost jumped out of his car recently to punch a bicyclist (who was angry at him for nearly killing him), I thought, hm. This guy doesn't seem to have much self-awareness. He still seems to think the bicyclist was in the wrong, even though he claims to take "100% responsibility." But, okay, pretty typical human behavior. Maybe he's got some insights.

But then he decides to share a story of how, in his younger days, he was "blessed" to get off scott-free from near manslaughter. He talks about creating a horrifying road rage incident in which his angry decision literally caused another car to fly into oncoming traffic where it was hit by an elderly couple's cadillac.

How is it possible he was "blessed" to not have HIS life ruined by that event? He lied in court and told the judge he had done an illegal lane change. In reality, he had sped in front of the car and slammed on his brakes because they'd cut him off.

I still can't believe this story was shared publicly and that he is the host of a "college success habits" podcast. I wish someone would report him for lying under oath and I wish this podcast would get cancelled.

I understand his intent, but the perspective is so shockingly self-centered - down to the title of the episode, "how it could ruin YOUR life" (aka how he almost ruined his life) - that it made me feel sick. Maybe change the title to "how anger could ruin four innocent people's lives." To be fair, I could not stomach the rest of the episode and had to turn it off after he used the word "blessed" twice. Hopefully he had some wisdom about anger to offer, but it seems like that's still in development.
