023 - Northern Lights, Chapter 12: The Lost Boy

023 - Northern Lights, Chapter 12: The Lost Boy

This week we learn just how well Bolvangar is defended from Lyra’s use of the alethiometer. But while divining this intel, Lyra is also troubled by indications of a ghost in a nearby village. Having convinced the Gyptians of its significance, Lyra sets off on the back of Iorek the armoured bear to investigate…

Join us as Iain gets tested on his Alethiometer knowledge, Amy speculates on panserbjorn-aging and we both get very very freaked out by a particular spooky village.

    022 - Northern Lights, Chapter 11: Armour (part 2)

    022 - Northern Lights, Chapter 11: Armour (part 2)

Lyra heads down to a nearby cafe where the Gyptians are mustering over coffee. She starts to gather a small crowd with her tales of Iorek Byrnison the armoured bear and meets Lee Scoresby - a New Dane/Texan aeronaut who John Faa has brought into their troupe. Lee subtlely and instantly sides with Lyra and Iorek, helping to distract the Gyptians so that Lyra can make a beeline for the bear and reunite him with his armour.

Join us as we discuss mindbogglingly massive explosions and Iain’s thoughts on ‘full encasement armour’, all whilst showcasing our dodgy American accents (sorry America).

    020 - Northern Lights, Chapter 11: Armour (part 1)

    020 - Northern Lights, Chapter 11: Armour (part 1)

This is the first of our two episodes on Chapter 11 - Armour. Lyra sees a city in the northern lights before entering into a complex conversation between John Faa, Farder Coram and the daemon of the witch Serafina Pekkala - a snow-goose called Kaisa. This disembodied goose explains what they know of where the missing children are being taken, paints a complex picture of the local politics and drops some minor bombshells…

Join us as Iain and Amy discuss myths about the Northern Lights, give some honest thoughts on the chapter illustration and speculate on a Bolvanger re-brand.

A fan from Colorado ,

The most enjoyable HDM podcast

I’ve tried several HDM podcast and this is by far the best one. Hosts Iain and Amy share their love and enthusiasm for the source material and dissect both the book and the HBO show. They geek out on etymology and geography, express their opinions but also bring insights that truly add to the enjoyment of the show/book. Plus, they are charmingly British.

Great hosts, very well done podcast

Exactly what I was looking for in preparation for the HBO show! The hosts have great chemistry and I’ve enjoyed every minute of this podcast so far. They’ve done a wonderful job of running through the plot. They use a mixture of summarizing each chapter and reading sections that they either particularly like or feel need to be read to understand a particular point. Just really excellent job!
