Ep. 262 - Elseworlds - Batman The Brave and The Bold - Knights of Tomorrow!

Ep. 262 - Elseworlds - Batman The Brave and The Bold - Knights of Tomorrow!

What do you do when you don't feel like subjecting you or your audience to more Zeta Project reviews? The answer is you take a trip around the DC Animated Multiverse to see what fun you can find and that's just what the Good Brothers are doing for this week's final review in the month of May. The hosts break down an episode of Batman The Brave and the Bold, admittedly their favorite Elseworld to visit. The episode "Knights of Tomorrow!" stays on brand for the boys' "Back to the Future" theme as this episode tackles a look at the future of a retired Bruce Wayne passing the mantle of the Bat to the next generation to continue Batman's immortality. Along the way the writers included an entire Batcave full of Easter Eggs and references that you can hear the hosts try and name each and every one of them. Plus a discussion on the BTBTB characterization of the very controversial Damian Wayne, the surprising amount of death and violence in the episode, why this is the perfect episode for fans of the history of the Dark Knight and how the Dynamic Music Partners paid homage to themselves with the style of music for the episode. All of this and so much more await you on this exciting Elseworlds edition of the DCAU Review!

    Ep. 261 - Batman Beyond - Inqueling

    Ep. 261 - Batman Beyond - Inqueling

Never fear, the Good Brothers are here once again with a brand new review as they continue in their return to the future of the DCAU and a discussion about the Batman Beyond Season 3 episode "Inqueling." As the title suggests this episode features the return of Terry's most memorable villains in Inque. Inque is unable to hold herself together (literally) and the surprise backstory to the character that leads to a discussion by the hosts about whether adding humanity to a villainous character automatically makes them sympathetic. Cal & Liam also talk about the little bread crumbs that would eventually lead to one of the most controversial plot points in DCAU history (#KeepEpilogueASecret) - the hosts also talk about their enjoyment of the unbound visuals that accompany Inque in her episodes, where this episode ranks in the "Inque Trilogy" and how an inverted Beyond musical number communicates emotion in the final battle. Plus the hosts talk about a voice cast that doesn't feature one major DCAU voice and previews next week's return to the show's favorite Elseworld! All of this and much more await you on this week's DCAU Review!

Bonus Ep. 46 - Batman The Adventures Continue: Season Three - Issue Five - Crack Up! Part III

Bonus Ep. 46 - Batman The Adventures Continue: Season Three - Issue Five - Crack Up! Part III

The Good Brothers are back with a review of the fifth and latest issue of Batman: The Adventures Continue which wraps up the story "Crack Up!" with a third and final part. The hosts break down the plot, including the rapid pace and jampacked issue featuring the debut of the Joker's "J-Team", Harley joining the Bat-Family, Batgirl in her first in-costume action of the Season, and a discussion on the Dini-verse within the DC Universe and how it shows up in this month's issue. Additionally the hosts discuss some of their favorite panels from the issue, Monica Kubina's colors and some of the ways Ty Templeton successfully translates the tone/feel of an animated show in comic book form. All of this and a breakdown of a few Easter Eggs, more trouble for DCAU timeline gurus, and much more on this special Bonus Episode of the DCAU Review!

Ep. 260 - The Zeta Project - Shadows

Ep. 260 - The Zeta Project - Shadows

Cal and Liam are once again asking you to listen to a review of The Zeta Project but this time with extra incentive as they review the episode "Shadows" which features a crossover with the future Dark Knight of Batman Beyond. The hosts discuss the choice of how the first 10 minutes of the episode are spent, as well as the lackluster introduction of our special guest stars. The Good Brothers also discuss the difference the AI HD Upscale versions of the show make versus the generally available 480p, low definition versions. Additionally the hosts talk how Batman's appearance may have contributed to additional violence in the episode being permitted, Lolita Ritmanis's Beyond-ified soundtrack and how Kevin Conroy's voice performance in this episode led to a historic set of firsts for the DCAU. All of this and much more await along with a preview of next week's review on this week's episode of the DCAU Review!

    Ep. 259 - Batman Beyond - Untouchable

    Ep. 259 - Batman Beyond - Untouchable

The Good Brothers return to the future once again as they kick off the month with a review of the Batman Beyond Season 3 episode "Untouchable." Jumping right into the plot, Cal points out how familiar the plot points are when compared to other DCAU stories, and both hosts bemoan the continued characterization of Terry as a dirtbag boyfriend. While the animation does feature some interesting visuals, including the effect overlay of the Repeller's suit, discussion is had regarding one scene with inconsistent cel shading, how Batman chooses which rebreather to use and Blüdhaven's appearance. The hosts also talk about the late great Shirley Walkers use of the Beyond theme to punctuate the action as well as a surprising "one and done" acting job for one of the cast members. All of this and a preview of next week's exciting(?) The Zeta Project review on this week's DCAU Review!

Ep. 258 - Elseworlds - Superman vs. The Elite

Ep. 258 - Elseworlds - Superman vs. The Elite

The Good Brothers are taking a trip around the Multiverse for their 5th Saturday of the month as they review the 2012 Direct-to-video film Superman vs. The Elite. The film, which is an adaptation of Action Comics Issue 775, features a plot that needed to be expanded to meet the needs of a feature length run time which means the hosts take a little extra time discussing it which leads to a longer than normal episode of the pod. When discussing the plot they compare and contrast the additions not found in the original issue, while also noting the difficulties of adapting comics into animation. They also talk about the temptation to project human faults on the Superman character, why it needs to stop and how the character's innate goodness differs from any real life heroes we see in the world. Cal & Liam also tackle the unique character designs and animation style of the movie, the movie quality soundtrack and the immense voice cast which features more than a few DCAU crossovers! All of this and much much more await you on this giant-sized Elseworlds episode of the DCAU Review!
