    Brown Girl Sh!t

On the szn 2 opener, activist and academic Harpreet Mander (@itsHarpo) & I, kick back and discuss navigating life as brown women and how difficult it really is to stay true to our identities. We learned that through our very different childhoods, we both faced similar struggles in a society and culture that did not have much space for women like us. We are aware, forth coming and LIBERATED. Determined to break generational curses, we also discuss our healing journeys and what we are NOT bringing into 2020 cus we ti'ed!!!

    Sexual Liberation & Heauxism

    Sexual Liberation & Heauxism

    *TW: Sexual abuse*
Women of colour are reclaiming their sexuality and I am all the way here for it! On this episode, @shinyeredavis & I discuss our earliest sexual experiences, being shamed for exploring ourselves, and the importance of healthy sexual relationships with others & self. This episode was a tough one for me to release because I briefly speak on sexual abuse, and my earliest sexual experiences. We also redefine “hoeism.” If sexual freedom and awareness and dressing however I please makes me a Hoe… SO BE IT! Our bodies have constantly been sexualized in so many ways but our bodies are NOT for public consumption. Sexuality liberated WOC are on the rise & it is a form of radical self love we are re-learning together.

Shinyere also reflects on a time where she began EMBRACING her natural beauty which she had been told to hide or down play early on in life.

    The Mental Health "Taboo"

    The Mental Health "Taboo"

On this episode, Jessie Brar, a mental health advocate for Brown Girl Magazine and creator of The Mental Health Spotlight gets real about her mental health journey.

At the very beginning of the conversation she insisted that NOTHING was off limits, I was free to ask her anything. So we spoke on her struggle with suicidal thoughts, suffering in silence to becoming conscious and how she broke the cycle and made mental health a regular conversation in her household...

In retrospect we, as a community, need to talk more about these 'difficult' things. Talking is the cure to this illness.
