Changing Specialties: From Pediatrics to Dermatology with Dr. Lori Asztalos

Changing Specialties: From Pediatrics to Dermatology with Dr. Lori Asztalos

Dr. Lori Asztalos is a dermatologist who doesn’t fit the mold. Because she matched into dermatology, you could assume she had the PERFECT application with top board scores.
But that isn’t her story; she wasn’t AOA and had an average board score.
Dr. Asztalos completed two years of pediatric residency until she decided to switch specialties and go for one of the most competitive specialties in medicine: dermatology.
She dropped out of her pediatric residency to begin a new endeavor and apply to residency AGAIN, but this time to dermatology.
People advised against it. She was told that her scores weren’t “good enough”. Some thought she was crazy. …but she didn’t listen and paved her own path. And she made it!
From pediatric resident to dermatology attending.

An raw, honest, and INSPIRING podcast

Dr. Trot does such an amazing thing with her podcast. She inspires premeds and medstudents by being incredibly raw and honest about her experience. She breaks down that facade of medicine that you need to have the perfect MCAT/STEP 1 score, be top of your class, and not have mistakes ever to become a doctor. I really enjoying hearing all the fun perspectives of the doctors that she brings to her podcasts. I’m excited to listen to more! Will be sharing with all my coresidents for sure! @be.a.doctor_

SERIOUSLY DOCTOR GOALS!

I came across this podcast about 2.5 years ago when I began my journey applying to medical school. During my MCAT study breaks, while walking my goldendoodle, and while washing dishes, I would listen to Dr. Trot. It gave me the inspiration to continue the long road ahead and now I am ready to start medical school! Dr. Trot and all her wonderful podcast guests take you into the world of medicine— an intimate conversation that talks about grit, perseverance, hope, and the core values every physician should have. If you are looking for the best medical podcast, look no further because Dr. Trot is ready to take your breath away (metaphorically because that would be bad if it was literal, am I right?).
