ayna Locke is a Minnesota writer who has had a lifelong love of fiction. She earned her MFA in writing from the University of New Hampshire. Her short stories have appeared in a range of literary journals, including Great Lakes Review, Portage Magazine, and Bright Flash Literary Review, as well as several anthologies. She is reachable through her website.   With springtime in the air, a toddler chases a ball onto a melting icecovered lake far beyond his parents’ reach.  As the chill of Autumn comes to Minnesota, Max opens the door to find a grizzled drifter on the doorstep. Then Max realizes he knows the man.

When Julie returns to her mother’s home on the shores of Lake Superior, she sees an odd shape tossed by the waves onto the beach. What is it? Somewhere in Minnesota is a short story collection about the frenetic     human experience and the ways in which life manifests itself and delivers defining moments. With Minnesota lakes and seasons as the backdrop, each story shares a different tale of characters experiencing life's unexpected turns — from peculiar circumstances to moments of crisis — that at least temporarily set their world off its axis.

Andy Chang is an independent comic artist– based in New jersey. He has made several children-friendly/all-age comics-such as Add-Zero and Adventures of Sniffy – prior to the creation of Northwood Meadows. His style of art was inspired by a mixture of Japanese Manga and the Sunday comics – whimsical and simplistic- but the stories he creates references a funny take on the reality of the everchanging daily life.

Andy lives with his wife and three daughters, who all provides unlimited resource of inspiration and aspiration for Northwood Meadows’ future comic art. In the beautiful place of Northwood Meadows, there lives an entertaining crew of animals (and one extraterrestrial). Phil the penguin is the unappreciated artist of the group, while Ana is trying so hard to live her best life. Ally is making the most of his time on Earth and Ted the turtle is terrified of it all, but still tries to “upgrade his shell.” Balancing out this chorus of voices is Bob, the source of reason in Northwood Meadows. Northwood Meadows: Lifestyle [ISBN 9781737175865] is listed as $13.99 and available wherever books are sold.

The Douglas Coleman Show w_ Benjamin Wong

The Douglas Coleman Show w_ Benjamin Wong

About BA: Daniel Li (Lawrence Kao) and his daughter Collette (Kai Cech) are without options, money, or a home. In a desperate bid to secure his daughter's future, Daniel unwittingly accepts a chilling role - becoming Death itself. He undergoes a haunting physical transformation and learns the hard way that anything he touches will perish. Adapting to this cursed experience, Daniel shrouds every inch of his skin, lies about his profession, and sets rigid boundaries for Collette to keep her safe-all the while working to undo his fate. A curious and precocious Collette grows suspicious of her father's condition and whereabouts right when Macey, a Child Protection Services Officer, takes a keen interest in Collette's situation. Things come to a head when Collette discovers the truth about Daniel, causing their whole world to unravel.

Written and directed by Benjamin Wong and produced by Elizabeth Ai, their passion project BA is an accumulation of real-life experiences being Asian-American, the struggles parenting, paternal love and sacrifice, as well as the reality that not all stories have a “Hollywood ending.” Both Benjamin and Elizabeth are parents with their respective partners, and a big part of the inspiration of this film came from not knowing what it means to be a parent when experiencing it for the first time and realizing how much parents are willing to sacrifice for their child.

Star of the film, Lawrence Kao is a SoCal native that has been in the industry since he and his dance crew Kaba Modern took second place on MTV’s “America’s Best Dance Crew” in its inaugural season. From there Lawrence would go on star in projects including Netflix’s “Wu Assassins,” the sequel film “FISTFUL OF VENGEANCE, CW’s “Walk: Independence,” AMC’s “The Walking Dead,” the CW’s “The Originals,” TNT’s “Franklin & Bash,” CBS’ “Hawaii Five 0,” and MAX STEEL, to name a few.

    Release date: TBD

A Wonderful Host

I had such a wonderful time talking with the delightful Douglas Coleman. We got to talk about all things “I Love Lucy”, including my role in Aaron Sorkin’s latest film, Beyond the Ricardos. I couldn’t have asked for a better host.
