Parenting Pointers 1051 - It’s those 96 hours that can break you.

It’s those 96 hours that can break you.

Just describing it right now is enough to make you tremble.  Yes, getting your kids into the car is a nightmare, especially if they’re 2 or 3 years old.  Did you realize that it takes you an average of 10 minutes to get your child ready and into the car?  Did you factor that into your “drop dead” exit time when you absolutely, positively have to be at work?  Oh, is that why you’re late at least once a week?  You actually might need an extra 40 minutes or longer to get where you’re going when you have the kids in tow.  Every year, that’s 96 hours or 4 full days to get jackets on, seat belts clicked, shoes tied, potty breaks and the rest of it.  My recommendation is to embrace the horror.  This time of life doesn’t last forever.  Be realistic about how much time you really need and schedule it.  Don’t make life harder than it needs to be.

Parenting Pointers 1050 - Signs you might be getting dumped

Signs you might be getting dumped

Got that uneasy feeling about where your relationship might be headed?  Pay attention because there are signs that you’ll be solo soon and you need to get ahead of this.  Is your partner willing to skirmish over the smallest things?  What about forgetting to call or text just to touch base in that “I’m thinking of you” kinda way?  Is your hunny bunny more critical of just about everything you do and say?  Has she upped her game in terms of how she looks?  Did she change her hair color and lose 20 pounds?  Is he not all that interested in romance?  You could be losing your relationship.  If you think it’s worth fighting for, then get in the ring.  Sit down and have a serious talk.  Your sweetheart may have misinterpreted some little thing you said or did and now, their boots are on and they’re walking out the door.  If it’s meant to be, then work for it.  If you get married, it sure isn’t going to be easier.

Parenting Pointers 1049 - A sleep divorce can save your marriage

A sleep divorce can save your marriage

Many American couples struggle to sleep with their partners due to different sleep schedules, constant tossing and turning, snoring, use of digital devices, and an assortment of sleep disorders.  It’s thought that 75% of us believe that sharing a sleep space with them results in poor quality sleep.  Some couples buy a bigger bed, use separate blankets, sync up their sleep schedules and yes, many give up and just sleep in separate beds or rooms.  It’s either this kind of “sleep divorce” or an actual divorce because sleepless nights lead to more fights with their partners and less intimacy.  Ten percent of adults confess that their sleep problems cause them to consider a breakup entirely.  But, stop!  If you get a sleep divorce, your relationship is likely to improve!  Don’t sleep on it.  Take action today!

Parenting Pointers 1048 - Educated, married Moms have their first baby in spring

Educated, married Moms have their first baby in spring

Were you able to time the birth of your firstborn?  Did you plan conception to have a spring birth?  Did you do that to avoid the peak of the flu season?  There is a trend among educated, married American Moms to give birth in the spring to avoid the sick season.  Teachers, library workers and those in the training sector also want to give birth in the spring to give themselves more time to spend with baby in the summer considering the short maternity leave of employers.  Most parents used to strive for a summer birth and understanding the new trends helps policy makers to design programs for job flexibility and to meet child health and educational needs.  With the majority of kids being born in the spring, it’s likely that the number of kindergarten and first grade classes will increase to meet the demand.  Parents’ behavior can have far-reaching effects.
