Mari - Voice of a Generation? 🤔

LOVE Dr. Lyon - she’s intelligent & strong yet warm. I love her demeanor, the information she shares, the positive influence she has, how she’s protective of the veteran community… the list goes on! And in terms of being a podcast host, she’s able to ask the right questions and listen but also lead the conversation when needed. She’s brilliant! I’m listening to the episode with Mari Llewelyn and just wanted to mention the irony of Mari talking about the fear mongering and clout chasing that takes place in this industry - she’s someone who takes a bogus amount of unnecessary supplements and whose entire podcasting platform is predicated on what NOT to do in order to be optimally healthy, all of the hidden dangers lurking around us, etc. Even though we all know some of these things to be true, the messaging makes a difference. Her podcast up until this point has included many fear mongering guests, controversial figures and non-experts claiming to be experts (of course there are exceptions like Dr. Lyon). There are others in the health & wellness space who share similar info but do so in a manner that’s not anxiety-inducing. Perhaps this is changing - time will tell. But sometimes I think Mari appeases and says whatever she thinks those around her want to hear. I also found it odd that Dr. Lyon compared her experience as a physician studying protein metabolism for 20 yrs and caring for end-of-life patients (and the compassion fatigue that comes along with that)… to the experience of an influencer/entrepreneur with zero training, credentials or patient care experience. I’m not devaluing Mari’s work ethic - and I appreciate Dr. Lyon’s humility - it’s just not the same experience in any capacity! Mari’s success at a young age is very impressive (much of which she credits to Greg who handles the business side of things), but “Voice of a Generation” is extremely generous, in my opinion 😬 Finally, the “ultimate sign of narcissism” as per this discussion is exactly what Layne Norton does, lol! He tears down other amazing well-intentioned experts, based on a soundbite taken out of context. Calling out pseudoscience is one thing; belittling colleagues - who also know their stuff - is another.
Thank you!

Thank you for being on the Jocko podcast! If not, I would have never known about you. I recently started listening to your podcasts and reading your book. Both are a wealth of information.
Thank you Dr. Allan Bacon

I recently listened to an episode of a podcast featuring Dr. Allan Bacon, a respected expert in nutrition and dieting. This episode was a game-changer for me, offering valuable insights that have transformed how I approach my diet and overall health. Dr. Bacon’s approach to nutrition is refreshingly realistic and sustainable. He emphasizes the importance of understanding the "why" behind our eating habits, encouraging listeners to look beyond fad diets and focus on long-term, healthy eating patterns. One key takeaway from the episode was his explanation of the importance of balance and moderation. Rather than advocating for strict dietary restrictions, Dr. Bacon discussed how incorporating a variety of foods can lead to better nutritional balance and a more enjoyable eating experience. Another important lesson I learned from Dr. Bacon’s appearance was the concept of "mindful eating." He spoke about the significance of being aware of what we eat and how it affects our bodies, promoting the idea of listening to our hunger cues and eating when genuinely hungry rather than out of boredom or emotional triggers. This perspective has encouraged me to be more conscious of my eating habits, helping me make healthier choices without feeling deprived. Dr. Bacon also highlighted the importance of personalization in dieting. He emphasized that there is no one-size-fits-all solution to nutrition, and the best diet is one that fits an individual's lifestyle, preferences, and nutritional needs. This has inspired me to tailor my eating habits to suit my unique needs rather than following generic diet plans. Overall, Dr. Allan Bacon’s insights on the podcast have given me a more holistic and flexible approach to nutrition. His emphasis on balance, mindfulness, and personalization has reshaped how I think about dieting, focusing on sustainable and enjoyable eating habits rather than short-term fixes. I highly recommend this episode to anyone looking to improve their relationship with food and gain a deeper understanding of nutrition.
Great podcast but please speak up Dr!
9 juil.
I love this podcast. It’s informative and just interactive enough to keep you interested while still getting to the point. Please for all of our sake though speak up or adjust your Mike Dr. Lyon, I can hardly hear half of what you say compared to most of your guests and that’s usually my favorite part!
