Money. Romance. Tragedy. Deception. The story of Elizabeth Holmes and Theranos is an unbelievable tale of ambition and fame gone terribly wrong. How did the world's youngest self-made female billionaire lose it all in the blink of an eye? How did the woman once heralded as "the next Steve Jobs" find herself facing criminal charges -- to which she pleaded not guilty -- and up to 20 years in jail? How did her technology, meant to revolutionize healthcare, potentially put millions of patients at risk? And how did so many smart people get it so wrong along the way? ABC News chief business, technology and economics correspondent Rebecca Jarvis, along with producers Taylor Dunn and Victoria Thompson, take listeners on a journey that includes a three-year-long investigation. You'll hear exclusive interviews with former employees, investors, and patients, and for the first-time, the never-before-aired deposition testimony of Elizabeth Holmes, and those at the center of this story.

What is truth?

What a great podcast. I have many thoughts but I just want to say that the number of times Elizabeth Holmes gets back up doesn’t make her true, because clearly the woman is a pathological liar. Being confident doesn’t make a lie any less of a lie; it simply shows how delusional she is. What is saddest is the number of people on all levels who were willing to collude whether out of fear, FOMO, or simply the need to believe and have someone to follow. It’s the same thing I see in the current impeachment hearings. How abysmally lost we are.

Myth making episode 1

I only made it about 10 min in. I am somewhat familiar with her story since I was a laboratory manager in a small hospital for 15 years. We were all concerned about being put out of business by this methodology. But I stopped listening to the podcast because of the dramatic explanation of the venous blood draw procedure. It is not a long process. In my 20 year experience, 95 % of blood draws require 1 stick and the patient is in and out in less than 5 minutes. (Outpatient blood draws which was the focus of the Theranos instrument) And also it’s most likely not a nurse drawing your blood. It is a phlebotomist, lab tech, nurse assistant, medical assistant, or health care tech. Nurses start IVs. Different process all together. Perhaps the rest of the podcast is amazing.
