The East Meets the West Ep. 19 - Sword Stained with Royal Blood (1981) & The Mercenary (1968)

We're back after a bit of a hiatus! On today's show, Re-Gor and Patsy discuss the Shaw Brothers film Sword Stained with Royal Blood from 1981 and the spaghetti western The Mercenary from 1968. In Sword Stained with Royal Blood havoc breaks out when a warrior on the run uncovers a sword, training manual, treasure map and a secret message on the body of a deceased master. The Mercenary concerns Sergei Kowalski (Franco Nero), a mercenary only out for himself and a few dollars, who joins up with a Mexican peasant-turned-revolutionary, Paco Roman (Tony Musante) -- when the price is right. No longer content to toil for the rich and powerful, Roman plans to bring a new order to Mexico by force with his small ragtag group. While Roman and Kowalski are outnumbered facing the Mexican army, they also have to contend with Curly (Jack Palance), a vengeful killer out for blood. Join us for a fun discussion! The East Meets the West Ep. 15 – Legend of the 7 Golden Vampires (1974) & Requiem for a Gringo (1968)

Last episode was part 2 of our Primer on Shaw Brothers films and Spaghetti Westerns. Today, we break our usual form again as we will NOT be discussing a Venom film from Shaws or a Terence Hill related Spaghetti Western. This episode, we've got a very special guest returning to the show, podcaster extraordinaire, Derek M Koch! Derek, Patsy and I discuss two wonderful films: just in time for Halloween we present the Shaw Brothers/Hammer Films team-up, Legend of the 7 Golden Vampires (1974) and the Spaghetti Western, Requiem for a Grino (1968). You're in for a great treat!
