She has worked extensively in obesity research at Columbia’s Obesity Research Center, NYC and developed the nutrition component of the Beth Israel Medical Center weight loss surgery program. 
Melainie also co-founded and was first President of the iaedpNY Chapter a non-profit organization that provides education for professionals who work in the eating disorder field.
Melainie is a frequent speaker, nationally and internationally, including her native Australia. She has contributed to several publications and has appeared on the Today Show, The Early Show, The Big Idea with Donny Deutsch, MSNBC and Channel 11 Evening News as a nutrition expert.
