The Esau McCaulley Podcast

I really look forward to this podcast every week. Esau talks about the things that need to be talked about in the culture right now and always comes at it with a solid biblical and theological lens that doesn’t make me feel like I need to choose sides. There’s no hint of snark or sarcasm, but an earnest attempt at understanding people we don’t agree with and an earnest mourning of how people who profess faith fail to live up to the calling of the gospel. Grace is extended to everyone and this has increased my capacity for grace and made me less rage-filled when I look at the news. I can’t say how much I need this is my life right now. The conversation that was initiated by director/producer, Mike was really good. Both of you had some excellent points. I think Mike speaking to the unhealthy focus on church numbers was spot on. It’s so much more about if people are getting healthy and growing as disciples and being taught how to disciple others. And Esau’s point about the comparison between the influencer style pastors, and the everyday church pastor that’s shepherding between 75 and a 125 people. The comparisons are just unfair and it can weigh on someone who’s doing their best and really love their people. It’s so unfortunate to be treated as if the work that they do to serve their people on Sunday just doesn’t matter because they don’t have a good turn of phrase or some social media worthy clip from their message. Thank you all for these nuanced perspectives. I’m a former pastor of spiritual formation, currently a Spiritual Director. I Love the show and I listen every week.
