Quite Awful

I really want to like this podcast, but it makes me infuriated each time I try it. I downloaded the first episode when the podcast debuted, and I was turned off by the lack of insightful ethical analysis and by the general agreement between the hosts. Ethical dilemmas are, by their very nature, controversial; however, the hosts seemed to agree on what is ethical with little or no exploration of other possible positions. After my initial reaction, I waited several months to give the hosts time to mature into the role of 'ethicist.' Unfortunately the podcast still suffers from the same flaws (I couldn't even get through the second episode I tried). One example of the lack of insightful analysis is the discussion of vintage ivory; the hosts equated wearing vintage ivory with wearing other vintage jewelry because all vintage jewelry likely has nefarious or less than favorable origins. They completely neglected to explore the extent to which wearing ivory now signals that ivory is something to aspire to-wearing it has the potential to stimulate demand for ivory. Because there is no ethical way to obtain ivory for new jewelry, the analogy to other vintage jewelry is flawed (ethical gold, silver, and diamonds are available). Wearing a vintage diamond necklace where the diamond has dubious origins may stimulate others to buy diamond jewelry BUT purchasers of new diamond jewelry have ethical options so stimulating demand is not ethically problematic.
