The Extra Mile is a personal undertaking by Dan Roth. It's a diversion down the side roads, looking for the stories and characters that are what really makes it fascinating to be an automotive enthusiast. It's not press releases or up-to-the-minute coverage. It's deep content. Stories well-told. Come along as we explore and go The Extra Mile.
The Curse of Jeep
A Morgan Stanley analyst says Jeep is worth more than the rest of FCA, its parent company. It wouldn't be crazy for a company interested in Jeep to buy the rest of FCA just to get its hands on the brand. It's happened more than once before, and this phenomenon has become known as The Curse of Jeep.

2016 Toyota Prius review, Cadillac CT8 opinion
Some thoughts about leaving the Autoblog Podcast, a week with the 2016 Toyota Prius, and a Cadillac CT8 Choose Your Own Adventure.
Let's Try a Car Review
They can be awfully dry. I've been reading car reviews since I can remember being able to read. That makes me an expert reviewer of reviews.
Car reviews in any format generally have too much information; that information is also delivered inelegantly. Giant blocks of text, seemingly lifted from the spec sheet.
For me, the red meat in any review are the driving impressions. You know where to find the other crap; automakers spend millions creating websites just FILLED with that stuff. Go find your list of features there. Listen to this review of the 2015 Lexus IS 350 while you do it. It's a review composed entirely of driving impressions. You're welcome.
Dads, Cars, and Fixing Stuff
Fathers are often central enablers to our obsession with cars and tools and things mechanical. Here's a story about how I convinced my dad to let me drive at 12 years old, and Craig Fitzgerald and Zach Bowman weigh in philosophically about the role fathers and projects play in our lives.
Today is the first full day of spring. And yet, here in New England, there's still frigid temperatures and snow in the forecast. The winter is hanging on even more than usual. The New England Motor Press Association just tallied the votes for the 2014 Offical Winter Vehicle of New England. Ride along with me for the test day and get some insight into what it means to own Winter and how it matters to automakers and journalists alike.

A Mini Documentary Every Episode
Didn't realize how much I wanted some like this until now. Fantastic job Dan, high production value, not the same thing every week, and entertaining.
Great Podcast Dan! When you left the Autoblog Podcast, it just wasn't the same so I was glad that you created something new. I have really enjoyed listening to each episode. They are more focused on Auto Enthusiasm and the new format is refreshing and different from of the other automotive podcasts in my queue. Please keep them coming!
A Unique Voice in Auto Podcasts
Dan Roth has an excellent project going on here, following up as the longtime voice of the Autoblog Podcast, his often polarizing, contrarian, and curmudgeonly opinions on cars and car life, finally have a home of their own. As the host of The Autoblog Podcast, Dan maintained a casual, conversational format that brought the listener inside the "break room banter" of auto journalists, making for refreshingly audience-relatable audio, for a large web publication. That voice comes through in The Extra Mile Podcast, instead with excellent sound design and interview editing, the listener is brought into the "pocket" of a veteran auto journalist and inside the auto enthusiast community.
