Time Stamped Show Notes: 00:11 – Today’s topic: Nymphing 101 Crash Course to cover the basics of nymphing 00:25 – 80% of a trout's diet consists of subsurface aquatic insects (nymphs & larvas) 01:05 – Fish at their level 01:14 – Put the nymph as close to the feeding fish as you can 01:20 – Fish are going to become bottom feeders during the Fall and Winter 01:35 – Midges are a constantly hatch during the winter months. These can be a reliable food source for fish. Shop our Midge & Euro nymph patterns at TheFlyCrate.com/fly-fishing-flies/nymphs-wets 02:12 - Fish the flies slow and low in slower pools and pockets 02:20 - Use an indicator in faster/deeper currents that you can not get close enough to 02:30 - Colton covers the uses of different types of indicators. Hard body indicators like a Thingamabobber can support heavier flies 03:00 - Yarn indicators like the New Zealand Strike Indicators are great for subtle takes and light flies 03:20 - Tab style indicators float high and never sink but you can not adjust it. Once it is on it's on 03:58 - Adjust your indicator so that it allows you to fish 1.5 to 2 times the depth of the water. So if the pool is 5 feet deep, position your indicator 7.5 to 10 feet up from your flies 04:22 - Instead of an indicator, you can use a dry fly 04:35 - Colton goes into specific detail of Euro-style nymphing and how you can convert your rod to tight-line or Euro-style nymph.

Apply to your guides often as it wears off 01:30 – Keep reapplying cooking spray and chapstick when needed 01:40 - Silicone spray could be more of a permanent solution that I haven't tried. If you do, shoot me a message and let me know how it works 03:22 - You can safely remove ice from your guides by gently rubbing it with your fingers 03:40 - Slide the ice off the guides.
