Government asked again to invest in N17

Government asked again to invest in N17

Further calls have been made for the government to invest in the N17.
The road was due to be invested in last year, but the plans were suspended by Minister for Transport, Eamon Ryan.
The calls have been made amid a sharp rise in road deaths in 2024, including a crash outside Claremorris that claimed the lives of a Donegal woman and her two children at the end of March.
Sinn Fein local election candidate for Ballymote Tubbercurry, Jason Gorman, says that it shows that the North West has been forgotten about again.

New figures show shock decline of Sligo/Leitrim Roads Policing Unit

New figures from road safety group PARC further indicate a major decline in Gardai assigned to road policing units in the North West.

The data shows that in the Sligo/Leitrim division, there has been a drop of over 20 personnel since 2009.

There were 34 Gardai attached to the Sligo/Leitrim roads policing unit then, now there's only 13.

In Donegal, the number has decreased by 12, going from 34 Gardai in 2009 to 22 currently.

Meanwhile, the Taoiseach and senior ministers are due to meet with representatives from the Road Safety Authority today.

They'll be discussing the ongoing spike in road deaths, with this year on course to record the highest number of deaths in 15 years.

Founder of PARC and Donegal woman Susan Gray says the figures speak for themselves:

C3 technology making a huge difference at Ireland West Airport

New security screening technology won't be fully rolled out in Dublin Airport until the final months of next year.

30 new C3 machines are needed across the two terminals in order to fully lift the liquid limit, and the need for passengers to remove liquids from their bags in security.

Daa expects Terminal 2 will be complete by October of this year, with work in Terminal 1 not set to finish until October 2025.

The technology is already fully in place in Ireland West, Kerry Donegal and Shannon airports.

Donegal homeless statistics not true reflection of crisis - Kennedy

The latest homeless statistics for Donegal are said to be not a true reflection of the extent of the crisis.

The figures show that there's currently 56 families in the county availing of homeless supports from Donegal County Council.

Lack of resources leads to Donegal losing out in Community Monuments Fund

Lack of resources leads to Donegal losing out in Community Monuments Fund

It’s emerged that Donegal County Council did not have the resources to apply for funding under the Community Monuments Fund.

Donegal was the only county in Ireland that didn’t receive any Government supports to help to conserve, maintain, protect and promote local monuments.

It’s understood that a number of community groups had applied for funding in Donegal but were unsuccessful because there wasn’t anyone designated within the Council to process the applications.

It means that the County has potentially lost out on tens of thousands of euro – Sligo received over €350,000.

Chairperson of the Donegal Heritage Forum and Fine Gael Cllr Barry Sweeney says it’s hugely disappointing but is hopeful that the matter will be resolved going forward:
