“Grey Matters” as a title is a play on words. Grey matter is a vital part of the brain containing neurons and glial cells, imperative for motor function, processing thoughts, perception of life and emotions. We believe overall health and well being should start and focus on the brain & mind. We thought this would be appropriate because not only will our content and conversations focus on brain health, it will also focus on the grey areas. Most people live their lives in a grey area. Everyone is an individual & what works for one person, may not provide the same results for another. Health and wellness isn’t always black or white, right or wrong, with or against societal norms. That’s why grey areas matter. At the Grey Matters podcast, we embrace both grey areas and grey matter & it is our goal to explore and discuss all things grey.

After graduation, he decided to move to Florida to pursue a master’s degree in Exercise Physiology from the University of Florida and started working at a pro shop. He joined the PBA Tour and competed on the regional tour while managing his own pro shop. He quickly gained notoriety around the South for his outstanding drilling and layout recommendations.

He later on joined Storm as the Technical Customer Service Representative at Storm Headquarters in 2015, where he was responsible for facilitating warranty claims and assisting with ball testing. He was quickly promoted to technical manager and his added responsibilities included international ball development, website updates, and writing technical articles about the product line.

He continues to leave his mark on the sport through the bowlers he has helped, pro shop operators he has guided, technology he has directed, and the records he has crushed. He has been inducted into the Guinness Book of World Records seven times, most recently for the most bowling balls held simultaneously.

He works closely with the R&D Team conducting ball tests and developing weight blocks. He’s responsible for the development of Storm catalog inline balls from logo ideation to ball colors and fragrances. He also takes care of the USBC ball approval process and all approval applications.

He also provides direction during video productions and is responsible for the description of products to the consumer through digital and print communication. As chieftain of the technical department, he is also extremely excited to help Storm look to the future of technology.

Although for years he was best known for his sales classic, Endless Referrals, it’s his business parable, The Go-Giver, coauthored with John David Mann that has created a worldwide movement.

The Grey Matters Podcast ep. 76 | Meghan Molloy (Awake Brain Tumor Warrior), You're Not Alone

The Grey Matters Podcast ep. 76 | Meghan Molloy (Awake Brain Tumor Warrior), You're Not Alone

Fellow awake brain surgery patient Of Dr. Q joins me to share her story. Here is what she emailed me before we chatted on the podcast.

“I’m living in Atlanta,GA- I’m 26 years old. Im a payroll consultant (for a software company.) I have 2 dogs, a border collie named Luna, and a Lab named Emmie. In my free time, my boyfriend and I take the dogs to the local park and drink excessive amounts of coffee.

Like you, my tumor was incidental. On August 1st, 2020. I had a headache that started around 10am. It was a headache I never felt before and I rarely got headaches.. this headache did not leave and about 9 days later I was send to get an MRI by my PCP. Something on the MRI came back abnormal and I was referred urgently to a neurologist. My neurologist sent me for further testing and unofficially diagnosed me with a blood clot, then after testing, possible “cortical dysplasia” a tumor was on her list but at the bottom.

I was also diagnosed with NDPH ( new daily persistent headache)  a rare headache disorder that basically means a headache that starts and never stops. And that whatever is on my MRI is not causing the headaches. I was pushed by my mother to get a second opinion at Mayo since they live near by. I went in December and within 5 minutes of the apt, Dr. Hammack said it was a low grade giloma— long story short.. from that point forward have been under the care of Mayo Clinic.

I named my tumor Archie, so that he would be less scary to talk about

I had the option to “watch and wait” but since I was holding onto hope that the tumor was causing my headaches I proceeded to go the surgical route. Dr. Q and his team are phenomenal— he really does care about his patients and making a difference in the world. Being an anxious person, going through brain surgery was giving me major anxiety.. I made the decision to evict Archie early this year and scheduled it for July. So from Jan to July I was flip flopping between anxious and let’s get this over with.

The closer I got to surgery, I started to get more excited/relieved. I felt like I was in good hands with Dr. Q. When he mentioned I would be awake for surgery, contrary to probably most people, that made me feel better— I didn’t want to be under for surgery.. as I have this irrational fear I won’t wake up, so him saying I would be awake, made me less anxious— I still can’t believe how well surgery went and how I was post Op. I was out of the hospital in 3 days. Recovery is taking a while, but I’m learning to be patient with myself. Archie was an oligodendrogiloma Grade 2. I have my first follow up MRI next month.”

    This is Meghan Molloy’s story…..
