Money, and Mindset: Real Conversations with a Financial Coach -45

Money, and Mindset: Real Conversations with a Financial Coach -45

If you've been struggling with your finances, then you won't want to miss the latest episode of our podcast. Our guest is a Financial Coach that you can relate to, as walking the talk is what led her to her line of work. Your jaw will drop when you learn how quickly she and her husband paid off $245,000 in debt, and the list of other expenses they were still able to cover while doing it.
We keep the conversation relatable as we discuss such things as the feeling of shame that many of us attach to how we handle our money. For me, I have a hard time working around this belief that if I work hard, I deserve nice things, when in fact our self-worth should never be measured in material possessions, and working hard doesn't always equate a bank account that can afford those things. We don't just look at beliefs though, we cover a variety of topics related to money management, including planning for retirement, reducing debt, and setting financial goals.
Our speakers also share some inspiring stories of people who were able to pay off significant amounts of debt and create a better financial future for themselves. It is an encouraging reminder that it's never too late to turn around your finances and create the future you desire.

Listen to, and Better Understand, Your Body Through Bodywork -44

In this week's episode, we have an incredible guest who shares insights about bodywork and how it can help you understand and listen to your body better.
Do have a specific area of our body that always seems to give you trouble? Whether it's our neck, back, or shoulder, we all have that one spot that we wish we could alleviate. However, have you ever stopped to think about why that particular spot is always tense or strained? What is your body trying to communicate to you through those aches and pains?
In this episode, we explore different ways to look at these trouble spots and consider what our body may be communicating to us. We also discuss the importance of acknowledging the interconnected aspects of physical pain and how bodywork can help with this.
This concept of listening to our bodies dovetails perfectly with the conversations we've been having. What might your body be trying to tell you? The concept of getting curious, is one that our avid listeners will find familiar. Jenelle talks about the whispers our body gives us. Any guess what happens if we don't listen to the whispers? Tune in to hear more!

Guest Episode from The Fire Inside Her on Connection, Community, & Collaboration -43

Guest Episode from The Fire Inside Her on Connection, Community, & Collaboration -43

This week we are doing things a little differently!
You get the opportunity to experience a Guest Episode from The Fire Inside Her Podcast with Diane Schroeder. I am sharing with you “Connection, Community, and Collaboration” which features a guest from Oregon (my home state, and where I currently live, so definitely a bonus). Diane’s podcast is part of the Authentic Connections Network, the podcast network I founded to address the lack of women’s voices in podcasting.
Her podcast focuses on Self-Care, Authenticity, Community, and all the things that I know each of you cares about as well. This episode is just a taste, and she is already a few episodes into her second season, so there is lots of good stuff for you to discover. This week she is even featuring an episode on mothers and daughters, featuring a conversation with her mom.
The beautiful thing about a network founded by a woman focused on amplifying women’s voices is that the focus is on making the workflow easier for women. Lifting each other and supporting each other. Some of this episode from Diane’s podcast talks about the support of other women and the magic that happens when we find and support community.
Small warning that part of the authenticity on Diane’s podcast means it does get an E-rating so that she and her guests don’t feel guarded in the language they use. Very much in alignment with Brene Brown and keeping it real.
So, if you listen with kids around and prefer that they don’t hear that language, wear earbuds!
At the end of my intro, I also mention that I am launching a never-been-done-before model of the network where a cohort of women will launch their podcasts together after a summer incubator. If you have a podcast brewing or know someone who *needs* to amplify their voice and launch a podcast, have them get in touch with me! Instagram is best - @37by27

Responding to Life’s Traumas with Compassion, Calm, and Confidence with Katharine Manning -42

Responding to Life’s Traumas with Compassion, Calm, and Confidence with Katharine Manning -42

Do you ever freeze up a little when someone shares with you the complex story of a terrible situation they are experiencing? Maybe you aren’t sure how to respond, or maybe you are overwhelmed by what they may be experiencing.
Difficulties and challenges are feeling more common, or perhaps there are more shared experiences of bigger traumas that are bringing the conversations to the surface. Our guest today, Katharine Manning, has been working alongside traumas and supporting the individuals left in the wake throughout her career. The insight she has on ways to respond is valuable to both businesses and to individuals and we have the gift of her knowledge as part of our conversation today. She has a fabulous acronym LASER that will help guide us through our response, useful resources, as well as perspective on things like boundaries and our role that make this an exceptionally valuable episode.
Katharine Manning is the author of The Empathetic Workplace: Five Steps to a Compassionate, Calm, and Confident Response to Trauma on the Job and the President of Blackbird DC. She has worked on issues of trauma and victimization for over 25 years. As a Senior Attorney Advisor with the Executive Office for United States Attorneys, for fifteen years Manning guided the Justice Department through its response to victims in cases ranging from terrorism to large-scale financial fraud to child exploitation. Some cases she advised on include the Boston Marathon bombing, the Pulse nightclub and South Carolina AME church shootings, the uprising in Charlottesville, the Madoff investment fraud, and the federal case against Larry Nassar, doctor for the U.S. Women’s Olympic Gymnastics team. Manning now uses her expertise to help organizations prepare for and respond to the challenges they face involving employees and clients who may be in trauma. Her work has been featured in the Harvard Business Review, Fast Company, Thrive Global, and CEOWorld. A member of the bar in Washington, D.C. and California, Manning also served as an attorney with the law firm Pillsbury Winthrop in San Francisco, where she represented Fortune 500 companies in class actions, insurance, and media cases. She is a graduate of Smith College and the University of Virginia School of Law and teaches at American University and in the Master’s in Trauma-Informed Leadership Program at Dominican University.

Sleep: The Cinderella of Good Health -41

Sleep: The Cinderella of Good Health -41

Is sleep something you ignore? Something you think of as less important? Today’s guest refers to it as the “Cinderella” of good health for this very reason. It’s the thing we don’t pay attention to or notice, especially if it is going well. Sleep is something we take for granted.
If you’ve gone through a period when sleep doesn’t come easily, you know how disruptive lack of sleep can be. However, you may not have given much thought to all the varied impacts it can have on your day and your health. We rarely see the line that connects sleep to so many other pieces of our life and our functioning.
France Taylor shares valuable information in today’s conversation; everything from how you know when you have a sleeping problem to how much sleep you need and whether cherries or bananas might magically help us get our Zzzzzs.
Frances Taylor is a Sleep Expert and Fellow of The International Stress Management Association (UK), with over 15 years’ experience facilitating resilience events in diverse settings, from Universities to international film studios. During her work Frances realized that there was a missing piece when it came to people’s health and wellbeing – the importance of sleep. She decided to devote herself to providing engaging and highly practical sleep programs drawing on clinically tested approaches that work. Her therapeutic practice is based on CBTi – Cognitive Behavioral Therapy for Insomnia, the first line treatment in the UK and also highly rated in the States. Her online programmes and 1:1 coaching show people how to sleep well, work well, and live well within just a few weeks, without medication.
