I had a chat with Alex Flanagan, whom you may know via her national profile as a sports reporter covering the NFL, College Football, The Olympics and several others. We discuss her feelings about speaking out publicly on matters of social, racial and gender equality and what doing so means to her. I found her very open and insightful and appreciated her sharing her journey to understanding the plight of black Americans and other disenfranchised groups. I also learned that she was the NFL sideline reporter during the Chargers v. 49er game when Colin Kaepernick first kneeled in protest of police brutality and some of the backstory of how he came to kneel. A sit down with Head Coach Steve Kerr of the NBA's Golden State Warriors. With an astounding 8 championship rings, Steve should be a lock as a future Hall of Famer. In addition to his accomplishments in hoops, Steve also has a history of using his voice as a recognizable figure to speak on topics such racial and social justice very publicly. He's also a strong advocate for gun control though I regret we didn't get to that topic here.  In this podcast we talk a bit about coaching but mainly discuss how some of these issues of the day impact and influence players, teams, coaches and the NBA in general. This is a conversation with John Kouris, who is currently in production of a documentary on the beautiful life and tragic death of our mutual friend Demetrius Dubose, who was shot and killed by the San Diego Police on July 24, 1999. "Demo" was a force of nature, a beautiful soul with an infectious smile. He was also a talented athlete who played briefly in the NFL but most of all, Demo was kind, generous, curious, intelligent, passionate and treated everyone, regardless of title, stature, race, popularity, age, wealth or whatever, as an equal. John and I discuss, with some emotional difficulty, our relationships with him, what he meant to so many people who were lucky enough to know him, and his terribly tragic, avoidable, premature death.

An interview with Maritza McClendon, an Olympic swimming legend. Maritza is the first African-American woman on the US Olympic Swim Team, which also makes her the first African-American woman to win an Olympic medal, as she is the proud owner of s Silver Medal from the 2004 Olympics. We discuss her upbringing, the interesting way she got into swimming, her experience as an African-American in the predominantly white swimming world. She also addresses the shocking number of black children who drown versus their white counterparts and what she's doing to help improve that disparity. Thanks for listening, hope you enjoy it.
