Hands-On With The New Yema Superman 500!

Hands-On With The New Yema Superman 500!

Hello and welcome to yet another exciting edition of The HourTime Show, the official podcast of WristWatchReview.com. Your hosts this week are Victor (@vmarks on Twitter) and Nicholas (@nicholasadeleon). John, alas, could not record this week.

After a bit of preamble, including the status of Victor's air conditioning system and Nicholas's delightful recent appearance on the Lan Jam Podcast, we do in fact talk about watches this week. Hooray!

Most of our focus is on a couple of recently announced King Seikos, including the very handsome purple dial SPB291 (around $2000), that both Victor and Nicholas are quite into!

Victor then gives his hands-on impression of the recently announced Yema Superman 500, a $1200-ish diver that he currently has on loan. He's a big fan! Why? You'll have to listen to find out.

There's a bit more but that's the gist of this week.

Thanks once again to Andrew Haworth for producing this week's episode.

Friends Don't Let Friends Buy Three-Handers

Hello and welcome to yet another exciting edition of The HourTime Show, the official podcast of WristWatchReview.com. Your hosts this week are John (@johnbiggs on Twitter), Victor (@vmarks), and Nicholas (@nicholasadeleon).

We've got a short and sweet episode this week because John is recovering from Covid and Victor's air conditioner died. Nicholas asks that you please read his article on office chairs in Consumer Reports. Thank you.

As far as watches go, we mostly talk this week about GMTs and how they're useful, with John now fully on board with the new Seiko GMTs that were just announced. John notes that he often sees tech bros with more money than sense (cents?) spending all sorts of money on three-handers, which causes him great pain. The rich get richer!

Hat tip to fan of the show @ayhcheung on Twitter for flagging the Miyota movement we discuss here.

That about does it this week. Like we said, short and sweet this week.

Thanks once again to Andrew Haworth for producing this week's episode.

Emergency Podcast: New Seiko GMTs Announced!!!

Emergency Podcast: New Seiko GMTs Announced!!!

There is nothing wrong with your smartphone. Do not attempt to adjust your audio settings. We are controlling transmission.

Yes that's right, it's time for our first-ever emergency podcast!

John (@johnbiggs on Twitter) is traveling for work, but Victor (@vmarks) and Nicholas (@nicholasadeleon, aka the person writing these notes) wanted crack open their mics to talk about the just-announced Seiko SKX-style GMTs that were made official earlier today. Yes, we've discussed these before, but now we have the full details. Look for them this summer for around $500-ish.

We also touch on (and actually open the show with, because of course we do) some Apple watchOS 9 stuff that was announced on Monday (this is the Nintendo thing Nicholas mentions), a handful of new Garmin smartwatches, and Nicholas gives his full thoughts on the Seiko SPB239 / SBDC141 that he just purchased. Is a $1000 Seiko worth it? You'll have to listen to find out!

Thank you for listening, hopefully it sounds halfway decent.

Haggling Over Discounts Triggers Our Anxiety

Haggling Over Discounts Triggers Our Anxiety

Hello and welcome to yet another exciting edition of The HourTime Show, the official podcast of WristWatchReview.com. Your hosts this week are John (@johnbiggs on Twitter), Victor (@vmarks), and Nicholas (@nicholasadeleon).

We tackle a few big topics this week.

The first is the very strong rumor of an SKX-style GMT coming from Seiko, uh, any minute now. Victor has the lowdown on the main site if you want to read the specs, but it appears we're looking at a $500-ish GMT that very closely resembles the SKX/5KX family of divers. Are your pals interested? Maybe... maybe not.

Nicholas then notes he recently broke the four-digit mark for the very first time, having purchased the Seiko SPB239 (technically the JDM version from Gnomon Watches which is the SBDC141.) He received the watch in the mail literally the day after recording so stay tuned for the full review. (Spoiler: It's gooood... mostly.)

Lastly, the main event: we discuss the "culture" surrounding getting a discount while buying watches. Nicholas spotted an article on Fratello the other day talking about whether or not getting a discount at ADs is over, and it sparked a discussion on the whole deal.

There's a bit more but that's the gist.

Thanks once again to Andrew Haworth for producing this week's episode.

[Memorial Day Re-run] Our Return Episode from December 2020!

[Memorial Day Re-run] Our Return Episode from December 2020!

    Hello everyone, Nicholas here.

We couldn't get everyone this weekend to record, being Memorial Day weekend and all, so we're re-rerunning the very first episode from this incarnation of The HourTime Show from December 2020.

The audio is not quite up to our current standards, but it should be listenable.

Anyway, enjoy this blast from the past, which mostly consists of how John and Nicholas met and how we all got into watches. Other podcasts might charge for this sort of rare archive material, but we're giving it away for free!

In the meantime, keep it locked to WristWatchReview.com for more fun watch content.

    We'll see you next week!

    Our Misadventures In Crypto

    Our Misadventures In Crypto

Hello and welcome to yet another exciting edition of The HourTime Show, the official podcast of WristWatchReview.com. Your hosts this week are John (@johnbiggs on Twitter), Victor (@vmarks), and Nicholas (@nicholasadeleon).

We've got a breezy episode for you this week as Victor opens with an update on that WT Author Kickstarter he had mentioned a few weeks ago (now with his review!); we bring up our still-on-paper plans to produce our own watch; whether or not smartwatches actually help you lose weight, featuring a shout-out to Nicholas's article in Hodinkee last fall about that very subject; and how "a guy we know" did very well in crypto and is now looking for a shiny new Tag to buy.

There's a bit more but that's the gist.

Thanks once again to Andrew Haworth for producing this week's episode.

Finally! The Reboot!

I was a big fan of this podcast back in the day. Nice to see an attempt at a reboot. Waiting for John to bust out with some of his classic impersonations.
