Room Rental House Hacking in NYC with the Miller's on FIRE

Room Rental House Hacking in NYC with the Miller's on FIRE

Today we are back covering the Room Rental style of House Hacking with our guest is Mrs. Miller. The Millers are a couple in their thirties that share money optimization skills. Mrs Miller's Latina and a native New Yorker. She's a first-generation college graduate who is on the FIRE journey. Mrs. Miller is a personal financial blogger at the Miller's On Fire where they focus on financial independence and early retirement. Their blog shares everything from money hacks, cost-cutting tips and one of the things I really like about their blog is they actually share some of their money mistakes cause I'm a really big believer and you can learn more about your mistakes than sometimes your successes. So I love that they shared that on their blog. Mrs Miller's been featured on the Her Dinero Matters podcast and other websites like Clever Girl Finance, The Financial Diet and The Money Hacking Mama. For more information, visit the show notes at https://fibyrei.com/S1E11

Work Provided House Hacking with Jenni from Family Size Finances

Work Provided House Hacking with Jenni from Family Size Finances

This week, we’re going to tackle another example of the work provided house hacking. Jenni and her husband recently purchased a farm in New York when suddenly they realized the farming experience wasn’t quite what they thought it would be. After searching for another job Jenni, her husband, and their kids found themselves moving to a ranch in Paducah, Texas. While usually the ranch provides housing from a house on the ranch itself, all of the houses were occupied. In lieu, the employer gave Jenni and her family a flat rate housing allowance. Luckily, allowance exceeded their housing costs!Jenni and her husband were able to still keep the farm in New York and decided to rent it out to a relative. This isn’t your ordinary house hack, but it definitely allowed Jenni and her family to live for free and still have their own property. Talk about financial freedom! For more information, visit the show notes at https://fibyrei.com/S1E10

This episode is definitely one for the books! We dive into a couple’s journey to financial independence and the steps that they are taking on the way there. John and Tahseen got married in 2014, and John had this amazing idea of retiring by the age of 40. Tahseen, being the financial expert in the relationship, started to wonder if retiring by 40 was even realistic. Sooner or later, they both came across the amazing concept of house hacking! This made retiring by 40 look more than realistic. Their house hacking started with helping out a college best friend who had a rough housing situation. Moving on to having another person live in their house, they discovered that their mortgage was almost being paid off by other people living there. When they discovered they were house hacking, they couldn’t stop there! So from room rental, John and Tahseen decided to try a small multifamily house hack. Listen to their incredible story as they tackle on different styles of house hacking together. For more information, visit the show notes at https://fibyrei.com/S1E9

Work Provided Housing House Hack with Sorcha Coyle

Today we talk about a very unique style of house hacking. It is one where your employer or your work provides you with housing. Now you might think that this is rare, but it is a more common occurrence than we think. It was briefly mentioned in last week's episode with David Pere when he mentioned he gets a $3,100 a month housing allowance while stationed in San Diego. For season one of the show, we will have three case studies on this style.  We want to make you aware of this style of house hacking, so you can potentially build it into your career plans. Now let's give you a quick overview of today's guest.Meet Sorcha: Two house hacks. Two separate countries. Sorcha has been living as an expat in the Middle East for over 8 years. The whole time her work provided her housing or with a housing allowance.  in the Middle East. Through house hacking, Sorcha has been able to generate more income, save (over 100,000 Euros), and travel to nearly every place on her bucket list. For more information, visit the show notes at https://fibyrei.com/S1E6
