IoT consumer products are more expensive than their traditional counterparts, often by an order of magnitude. Not good but makes sense – the tech needs to be financed. But however innovative the products are, higher pricing will cause a headwind. Part of the problem is consumer IoT products are still being sold with traditional product business models. In this episode of the IoT Business Show, I speak with Nate Williams about the opportunity to innovate consumer IoT business models.

Smart Homes and the IoT Ethos of the Jetsons

Smart Homes and the IoT Ethos of the Jetsons

The IoT Business Show is brought to you by the Iot-Inc Certified IoT Professional (ICIP) online training & certification program: http://www.iot-inc.com/training

The smart home or connected home makes life good. Comfortable. Reminiscent of the Jetson’s in many ways. But business models aside, today’s big question, at least for me, is if it really is a DIY (do it yourself) market as it’s currently being betrayed. Not so easy to install. Not so easy to repair, so is it better to be handled by the professionals (installers, integrators, service providers)? You can paint your house but do you want to when professionals can be hired?

IoT Regulations and the Information Security Program

The IoT Business Show is brought to you by the Iot-Inc Certified IoT Professional (ICIP) online training & certification program: http://www.iot-inc.com/training

If your company is collecting data, and every IoT company collects data, it needs a formal “Information SecurityProgram”. We’ve talked risk assessment in the past, that is the process of assigning liability to each potential security breach, but that’s only part of the program. In this episode of the IoT business Show, I speak with John Ansbach about the rest of the“Information Security Program”, impending regulation and privacy concerns.

The business counterpart to IoT security risk, loosely defined as probability times liability. The current narrative around liability is centered on privacy but it turns out that laws, regulations, and cybersecurity, in general, are some of the other elements in the IoT liability matrix. In this episode of the IoT Business Show, I speak with Mark Radcliffe about the current IoT legal framework and the potential liabilities to address early on in the IoT product development cycle.

The FTC and IoT Defending Against Zealous Tech

The IoT Business Show is brought to you by the Iot-Inc Certified IoT Professional (ICIP) online training & certification program: http://www.iot-inc.com/training

Lose five pounds of belly fat in five days! Sound too good to be true? Yeah, it probably is and because of that, you would expect the FTC to be all over it. But instead of weight loss products, what about IoT products? What’s fair? What’s deceptive? In this episode of the IoT show, I speak with Jared Ho about the FTC’s role in IoT and some guidelines to help your company navigate through the gray.

Excellent IoT themed podcast and highly recommended!

I first came across this podcast through one of Bruce's IoT modules on Linkedin and have been an avid subscriber ever since. There are three main aspects to the podcast that I think provide the most value:

1. High level overview of IoT architectures that Bruce provides through his Linkedin modules, podcasts and website
2. Discussion with industry leads who are actively developing IoT solutions for their end users.
3. Overview of adjacent technologies such as AI and ML to not only get a better sense of what it involves, but also discuss the integration of these technologies with IoT.

I highly recommend this podcast to anyone who is interested in IoT technologies. It does'nt really matter if you are a beginner or already an experienced user in this space- this podcast definitely provides something of value for everyone.
