The human side of Chicago music

As someone who covers a lot of Chicago’s music scene, I find Andy King’s Aux Populi marks off a lot of boxes for me. Introduction to new local music? Check. Deep dives with artists worth getting to know? Check. Entertaining, interesting and often hilarious conversations? Check. Aux Populi has become an essential part of our scene as Andy works with artists to uncover the reasons they make music, their histories with art and the emotional sides of creators that we don’t often get to see on stage. It’s fun and fascinating stuff!

For fans of long form interviews and local podcasts

If you’re a fan of local music and long form interview podcasts, this is worth listening to every episode. Andy does a great job asking insightful questions, diving into both the personal experiences and music careers of up and coming artists throughout Chicago. Instead of being just a platform for talking about and plugging new releases, the host really helps you get to know the people behind the music. I love seeing something like this for local music, because it’s so often we only get to hear about the personal side of music from the most popular artists and celebrities. Definitely listen to this!

Thanks, Aux Populi!

My name is Isabella Snow and I am an indie singer songwriter and entertainer in the Chicagoland area. When you’re coming up in the indie scene, it is absolutely integral to collaborate with other indie creators. Not only to raise awareness about what you’re working on, but to also foster community in the artistic scene. When creators relate well, their audience does too. But everyone has their own set of creative standards and you can get various results because of it. I was lucky enough to be approached by the lovely Andy King to be a guest of Aux Populi this past spring. Andy has an incredibly professional, thought provoking, and jovial creative process, not only in regards to the podcast, but every project he seems to take on. Being on his podcast was not only unique in the sense of the in depth intelligence given to his interview questions, but also in his ability to be a genuine conversationalist. As a women in the entertainment industry, it was also so refreshing to have a one on one conversation with a male interviewer in which I felt completely respected, comfortable, and listened to on an equal level. I was honored to be a guest and would love to be back.
