I listen to an episode at least once a week. It’s encouraging, beautiful and relaxing as a newly sober girl. Thank you for sharing your story.
Jackie’s openness and blunt honesty about her sobriety journey and unflinching willingness to talk about the ways in which American “drinking culture” can be toxic and problematic is truly inspiring. While I have never personally had an unhealthy relationship with alcohol myself, I grew up with a father with substance abuse issues and a prolific family history of alcohol and substance abuse. Like most people, I also watched friends and peers in my teens and current life struggle to maintain a healthy relationship with alcohol. I can’t begin to quantify how many times I have longed for those I know (close or not) to struggle less acutely with their alcohol use so it is no longer causing them additional pain and anguish in their lives. Jackie’s sobriety story and openness in speaking on the ways alcohol and popular culture’s promotion of alcohol use can be damaging is truly inspiring. Not only is Jackie providing support for those who are sober, struggling to get/stay sober, or are sober curious, but her willingness to share her journey helps uplift loved ones of those struggling with their own journeys.
This podcast gives me so much comfort and hope. I have been following sobriety podcasts, Instagram, and books for a while now and I am ready! I just turned 54 years old, been drinking for 34 years and my 6 year relationship just ended. We are 2 weeks into the Covid 19 quarantine and I can’t think of a better time for me to make positive changes in my life. Jackie, the way you describe your relationship with alcohol and the way it affects your personality, mood, communication, relationships and mental state resonates with me. I look forward to feeling the sobriety magic. 🧚🏼
